ETA: THIS POST IS FROM 2012 WHEN THE COUNCIL MANAGED THE WALKERS REGISTER. FRIENDS TOOK OVER THE REGISTER IN 2013 AND WE HAVE A ROLLING VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT PROGRAM, NEW WALKERS ARE WELCOMED EVERY MONTH. PLEASE SEE OUR WEB-SITE FOR DETAILS LINKAs you may know, CDH have temporarily stopped taking new registrations, as they now have 500 walkers registered. However, the Friends group organise occasional midweek and weekend fundraising Meets & Greets when we walk some of our dogs to local supermarkets, etc, to meet their public, and we need safe pairs of hands to walk the dogs. Also, we have a small group of people who work one-to-one with some of our 'special' dogs, (see Snoop and Munch's rehoming threads) and we also want to do some lead training with some of our 'pullers'. If you are available during weekdays and would like to get a bit of 'hands on' with our dogs, please post here or pm me (admin). Many thanks to everyone who brought halti's and gentle leaders to our Last Sunday event this month. If anyone has any more hiding away in cupboards, we would be really grateful. Susie x

I think I should be able to commit to some walkies in the next week or so. I've got serious withdrawal symptoms! I had an asthma flare up and thought I might be allergic to dogs (maybe just pupppies ) but it's calmed down now, as has the puppy. xx

I'm working full on, 7 days a week, at the moment for the next few weeks... but if you still need people at the end of July when I'm free, I'd be up for getting more involved.

I can't do weekdays unless I'm off work (next off work last week of July) but can do weekends and confirm a safe pair of hands for the dogs to be taken to the M&G's at supermarkets etc.

Hi there I'm not sure if this post is just for registered dog walkers at CDH, but if not I'd like to offer some help! I am a mature student living in Cardiff with too much free time whilst looking for work. I have a lot of canine experience: I studied canine psychology at college and have worked with dogs in one to one training, at puppy/adult dog classes and various charity organisations (both walking and kennel work). I am currently studying animal behaviour and welfare at Bsc level to further my passion! I was hoping to sign up and help at the home this summer but I see it is full to bursting- if I could help on weekdays with fundraising/meet and greet events then please contact me. Thankyou

This is a request for this weekend for all dog walkers. The kennels are very full at the moment and it would be really fantastic if we could get a lot of walkers updates and lovely photos on the forum this weekend. This is such a help to prospective rehoming families, and we want to help the Home to keep kennels available for new dogs coming in.
Thank you so much [/center]

Is there still no point in trying to be a dog walker? Do cardiff still have far more than they need? Juliet

Hi Juliet The Home closed the walkers register when the figure reached 500. Maria, the manager at the Home is assessing the figures at the moment and as soon as we have any news with regards to the register opening up again we will post on here. We really appreciate your interest. There are lots of other ways you can get invloved, take a look throughthis thread and if anything tickles your fancy, we'd love to have you on board ;D Becky x www.friendsofcardiffdogs.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=volunteersneeded&action=display&thread=1810

We're hoping that the Walkers Register will be reopened soon!
In the meantime we have a few local Supermarket Meet n Greets coming up - please see the Events Section here on the forum.
You don't have to be a registered walker to join us for Meets n Greets, but you do need to let us know so we can book the dogs out.
It would be great to see some new faces ;D

I really hope the walkers reg is opened again soon as there is no way there are 500 active walkers!!! I always check back in the book and the numbers have definitely dropped. One week I walked a dog on two consecutive Sundays and there were only 3-4 names between my two visits (admittedly a quiet week).
I'm glad Maria is reviewing this .

I noticed that as well Lis. Iit was probably the same weekend, but over the whole weekend, there couldn't have been more than 10-15 dogs walked. I have people asking if they can come and walk the dogs on a regular basis, it would be great if I could tell them that the register was open again
