WHERE THE GARDEN WILL GO WHAT WILL IT COST? We have had rough costings, based on a draft outline of what we want to include........ The figures we have been given to date are... Design, project management, labour, plant & machinery (to clear the area), etc £8,000Fencing & constituent parts (seating, tunnels, turf, sand etc) £5,500WE NEED YOUR HELP? Many of you have already helped raise money for the Sensory Garden Fund (please see the separate 'thank you' thread) and we are already well on our way to our target figure. One way in which we could reduce costs is by seeking 'donations in kind' from local businesses who may want to be a part of this initiative. Plans for the clearing of the ground are already well under way, and we are still firming up some elements of the Garden to ensure that all health & safety, maintenance, and sustainability considerations are taken into account. But we have a wish list of items that might be able to be sourced through donations...... Rubbish disposal £330 Fencing materials £1255 Sleepers and construction materials £835 Decking materials £350 plants and trees £500 Logs and rope £225 Gravel, bark, turf and grass seed £1500 Drainage pipe for tunnel £295 Materials for splash pool £220 So, if anyone thinks they may know a local company who would consider supporting the Sensory Garden and could supply something from the above list, or labour, or expertise, please let us know! If you have an uncle, cousin, brother, aunt, mother, sister, or close friend or relative that you could approach directly, please let us know! If you simply have an idea of companies that could be approached, please post here or pm me, and we will contact them. Otherwise there is a danger that Wyevale Nurseries for example will be getting 500 calls over the next few days asking for bedding plants VOLUNTEERS We intend to make the work 'light' by engaging as many hands as possible ;D If you are up for a bit of 'hands on' digging, painting, etc, we'd love to have you! If you have (or know anyone who has) any particular expertise, erecting fencing, laying paths, (does anyone know anything about splash pools)? outdoor lighting, or anything you think could be useful, please post here ;D

One of our friends is a tree surgeon so will ask him about getting the logs for us. What sort of size? How many? Does it need to be a particular type?
What sort of rope and how much do you need? Wondering if it might be worth approaching some of the local marina type places to see what they're not using?

Hey Susie Craig is an Electrician so count him in for outside lighting etc. He is also handy with most types of building so keep him in mind for stuff? He can turn his hand to most things. Me and the kids will help with any hands on work, like digging etc...especially over the next 6 weeks. Lisa x

Lisa x Massive I think we're going to have plenty to do over the next 6 weeks Lisa ;D There's definitely going to be digging & painting ;D Could Craig come down at some point and have a word with us about the electrics? Carol - the construction of the fencing is still under consideration - we're taking advice and consulting with various parties re the aesthetics, 'scalability' , required height, (the staff have suggested 6 foot minimum, and I couldn't/wouldn't argue with them)! We should be able to take a step back after the weekend, and review the timescales, and with the input from site visitors on the weekend will have a clearer idea of the project management side of things, as offers of help are coming in from all angles ;D Similarly with logs. Once the site has been cleared down (those of you who know the area will appreciate that it's very 'rich in vegetation') and it's possible that we may be able to retain some tree stumps for use as sniffing posts, but we'll have a better idea after next weekend. If anyone knows anyone who knows about solar powered water features, please let us know!

I've just seen a lovely picture of one of our rehomed pooches, and vis a vis the fencing, it brought this to mind.... " Is this a LADDER I see before me......." If you did an 'o' level in Eng Lit circa 1974, you'll gettit eta: G'wan then, no prizes, but what's the play?

We need a wooden sign on which is written, 'Please keep your dog ON the garden'. It needs to be easily read and we need to be able to hammer it into the border. Do you reckon he will be up for it? Rach x

I'm really sorry I wasn't around to help today and probably not tomorrow. (Life gets in the way, innit!) But I would like to help and shoudl have some time over the next few weeks. I have no particular skills other than freakish strength (for a 43 year old lass, anyway) and I'm not bad with a paint brush. I also actively like getting my hands dirty.

We asked, you answered The weekend in pictures........ Work started at 8 o'clock prompt. This was the scene at 7.45 am.... First vols on the scene were Becky and Rach. We owe a massive 'Thank You' to the lovely people at Atlantic Recycling, who very kindly donated free skip hire for the weekend At 8 o'clock, the chipper arrived... .....along with the rather camera shy 'Professionals' from Team Bereavement Services ;D Denise, gardener extraordinare.... And (left to right) Neil, Simon and Mark.... Denise, who didn't stop for the whole weekend, not even to take a peek at the puppies! (ahem, Neil, Mark & Simon)!!!! And Friends vols did us proud Including our Young Friends, who totally got into the spirit of things... Snoop came to have a looksie and oversee the proceedings... and had a fuss from her aunties... and from her new totally smitten uncles...
