Rainbow Bridge is a memorial to some of the beautiful, amazing, beloved dogs who have crossed our paths, entered our lives, and stolen our hearts.
We would ask that every single one of our bridge babies are allowed to rest peacefully, some of them have had difficult, traumatic and troubled pasts, the least we can do is respect their memory.
A word on 'type' dogs...
Like all Council run pounds, the Home is inspected very regularly by a specially trained Police officer who assesses each dog as to whether they are 'type' under the Dangerous Dogs Act. The Act prohibits 4 types of dogs and it is illegal to own them without specific exemption from a court.
The dogs are judged on their physical characteristics and whether they match the description of a prohibited 'type' if so the dog is PTS. This is the law of the land, there are no options, and the law has to be followed.
This is happening in pounds and in homes all across the country
A great number of people are campaigning to have this law changed, arguing that it is the owners that produce dangerous dogs, not the actual breed itself. One of the best known and most influential is Breed Not Deed, please take a moment to check out their page here
www.deednotbreed.org.uk/
If you feel strongly about this law, please show them your support.
Dogs PTS due to behavioural issues, history of attacking dogs/people
Cardiff Dogs Home is a Council Pound. Unlike the Dogs Trust, rescues and rehoming centres, pounds are obliged to take in ALL strays, regardless of temperament, known history, etc. They cannot cherry pick, or refuse to take in 'difficult' dogs.
If anyone is able to offer a rescue place - or sanctuary - to any of our long termers, our 'difficult to rehome' dogs, or indeed any of our dogs, please speak to the staff at CDH.
