Would someone please come and look at this beautiful lady.
Penny doesn't deserve to still be in the CDH. Just ask at the desk to take her out for a stroll. Watch her joy at being out of the kennel and into the bright sunny mornings. The sniffs she takes at every step along the lane. She is a darling that needs your love and attention.

I'm planning a visit tomorrow morning, my life is in serious need of some doggy company. I'll ask to meet her! And probably everyone else too!

We are absolutely devastated to share this sad news Penny has been a little off colour this week. She has been off her food, and for the past two days has been reluctant to go for walks. The staff put her on the vet list this morning, but even though she was being handled by her very favourite member of staff, Penny became extremely distressed and combative whilst she was being examined. Despite being given as much time and space to regain her composure, Penny's demeanour deteriorated very quickly. She became more and more difficult to handle, to the point where it was unsafe for her to be around anyone at all, and after consulting with the vets and the manager, the heartbreaking decision was made to let her go. Penny had been with us for two and a half months. She had some mild interest from rehomers, but nothing that came to fruition. Visitors to CDH will know that although she loved being out on walks, she was struggling with life in kennels, and that's perhaps one of the reasons that people continually passed her by. She was as tender and loving to people she knew and trusted, but some of the staff and walkers had noticed an increasing tension in her lately; she was becoming more and more destructive in her kennel, more vocal, and although we did everything we could to try to make her life as bearable as possible, it seems like Penny had decided for herself that she had had enough This week has been so tough, for the staff, volunteers, and for Summerhill vets, who get to know and love our dogs. What happened this morning was devastating, especially for the vet and staff involved, and we were all left totally stunned and traumatised, especially after such a difficult week. Rest easy beautiful Penny, no more demons sweetheart, you go chase those bunnies over Rainbow Bridge girlie, peace at last

Heartbreaking Sometimes we need to take a pause to realise that, despite how much we love them and are willing them to understand that things will get better, their demons are too much for them to bear. Run Free, Penny, at ease again, and remember you were loved x

Run free beautiful Penny.
I'm so sorry that your new forever him didn't come in time. I have no doubts you deserved it and I wish it could have happened for you.
Like all the ones we've lost, please know that you will be missed.....and that you will never be forgotten. Even those of us who didn't have the luck to walk you, were still drawn in by your lovely smiley face.
I'm so sorry for all the staff, vets and volunteers, it has truly been a dreadful week. The only thing you should keep reminding yourselves of is that, at CDH, these dogs get a lifetime of love squeezed into a day, a week or a month......something most of them haven't experienced before......and that is down to all of you.
Penny, take care at The Bridge - we'll look forward to seeing you again x

So sorry Penny - you're at peace at last. Enjoy playing with the others at the bridge, and be Star's guardian angel too.

It is so so sad to hear this news. I met this gorgeous girl in January and had really hoped she would have been ok with my Rottweiler Zena , but it wasn't to be. I had still kept up on her progress and really hoped she would find a home soon. Devastating for everyone at CDH. RIP princess and run free little one xxx

I am so sorry Penny that you could not find peace on a sofa. You were always my number 1 for a walk. I hope you find plenty of squirrels to chase at the Rainbow bridge. Be at peace now.
