I totally agree with Rhys' comments. FBS and Park vets need to be investigated. FBS allowed deflamatory comments to be posted about CDH on their Facebook page and only decided to withdraw the comments when there was such a backlash from supporters of CDH. Thank goodness Charliblogs made the videos of Star, which surely is evidence that she wasn't in pain or suffering, as was suggested by FBS and Philomena Murphy, some 'saviours' they proved to be. Disgusting behaviour shown by people who were supposed to care for, and be specialists of this breed. They have mentioned on their Facebook page that rectal prolapses are difficult to repair on Frenchies, because of the lack of rectal tissue, however there are quotes from members saying their dogs had been operated on with success, believe it or not, Philomena Murphy is one of the successful owners. Makes this even more unbelievable and me even more angry.
I totally agree with you, an keep coming back to this thread to find some justification as to why FBS would do such a callous and unnecessary thing.
I only wish that there was something I or we could do to tell the rest of the world about their actions.

Perhaps someone reading this could help CDH go public with our concerns, surely a press article would go a long way? Any ideas anybody?

For the past 2/3hours I have literally been speechless! I saw Stars post here on the day it was posted (courtesy of my hubby & son) who know I've ALWAYS had a 'thing' for Frenchies . I fell in love and immediately wanted to provide her with the safe & loving home she deserved. However, as we adopted THE GORGEOUS TIMONE (now called Teddy) from CDH just over 7 weeks ago, I quickly realised it wouldn't be fair on either of them, as Teddy (despite coming on loads & has settled beautifully!) still requires our full attention, and it was made very clear that 'beautiful Star' also needed lots of loving care. (After all IMO, taking on a rescue dog IS NOT about your needs/feelings - it's ALL about theirs ) I saw charliblogs gorgeous vid of Star and was sooo pleased to see that she was clearly coming on leaps & bounds. I'm not on facebook (odd I know!) so had no idea what had gone on. I read Baglady's post this evening and found out what had happened with Star...DEVASTATED is an understatement. I feel that no matter what I type, it will not express the anger & upset that I feel. I CANNOT imagine how all of the AMAZING staff at CDH must feel!? I genuinely feel sick to my stomach! I'm going to leave the typing for tonight - before I say something about FBS I end up getting sued for!

Hi Rhys
Thanks very much indeed for the update. I completely understand what you're saying. I hope it didn't sound as though I was implying nobody had bothered to do anything because I know that would absolutely not have been the case - quite the opposite.
It sounds as though you've had a really frustrating time trying to get the answers everyone needs with regard to Star - big thanks to you for pursuing it.
Park are my vets and I would be very happy to also ask them whether they could shed some light on the case. They're a lovely practice and, I suspect, would sympathise with the concerns. Please do let me know if you'd like me to ask as well.
French Bulldog Saviours appear, in this instance, to be an organisation prone to some secrecy. If they are reputable - and I have no proof to allege that they are not - then why will they not provide CDH or Friends with the answers to the questions being asked? They must realise that the enquiries are being made out of a genuine concern and love for Star - and are not prompted by any nefarious motive.
It would appear, until we are told otherwise, that this woman decided to play God that day. I'd very much like to know what made her feel she had the right to do so without consultation with the people who, to that point, had taken great care of Star. I have no doubts she would be given a fair hearing and I'm sure she feels she had genuine reasons - but we must hear them.
I'll stop pontificating now, because I won't be saying anything you haven't already covered, but please do let me know if I can help with any correspondence to FBS etc. And if CDH do decide to investigate - and I really hope they do - then I'd be prepared to offer them any support they need.
In the meantime, I'm going to light a candle for Star. Run free at Rainbow Bridge little girl - we'll all look forward to seeing you again one day x

With regard to the question about getting the concerns out via the media - I have some contacts and am just waiting for advice on whether Friends and CDH feel it would help.

Unfortunately, vets are not allowed to discuss their patients with anyone except the patient's owner, unless the owner gives their permission. It is a case of client confidentiality Garrick, I'm afraid, so they will not be able to give you any further information about Star.

Agreed, but I'm a little surprised that any veterinary would euthanise such a young and happy dog so quickly without seeking other options, even if the 'owner' requested it. We (and many rescues in South Wales) have been contacted by veterinaries and asked to take in dogs which owners have taken in for pts. The vets in question didn't even contact CDH for her history. It might be useful for people to know what general procedures individual veterinary practices have when they are presented with a pts request, especially if they know the dog has only been in the 'owners' hands for less than 15 minutes, and especially if they know that the dog has come from a local rehoming centre. I would be seriously concerned regarding the general attitude towards animal welfare if my vets were willing to perform an extremely perfunctory pts in this manner. I still cannot believe this has happened. Such a waste of a young life

I am in total agreement with Baglady and Oscarsmum, this is such a tragic waste of a young life. It appears Ms Murphy and the vet in question had a total disregard for this poor little frenchies life. Obviously we can't bring Star back, but if by bringing this to the attention of the public, maybe more lives could be saved as a result.
