Please be aware that all our forum moderators and rehoming admin team are volunteers. They all have full time jobs, their own dogs, their own children, parents, and other responsibilities. They are not paid, they do what they do in their own, very limited, free time. Our moderators and rehoming admin team are not people with spare time on their hands. They are the busiest people you will ever meet. Many of them support other charities and good causes as well as 'Friends'. They work 5 days a week, cram in their shopping, walking their own dogs, their leisure time, washing, cooking, cleaning, etc into one day on the weekend so they can go to the Home on Sunday to get to know the 'newbies', take pictures, discuss the dogs with the staff, then they spend hours when they get home uploading the pictures, writing up the rehoming threads, and keeping an eye on our social media pages to answer questions.
'Friends' is a charity, set up and run by volunteers. We maintain and moderate the social media pages, we fundraise for vet bills, enrichment activities, and for the kennel refurb, we cook special dinners for the dogs, we make sure that they are not forgotten at Christmas, we comfort the sad dogs, we play with the happy dogs, we arrange behavioural support for the troubled dogs, we manage the Volunteer walkers program.
The staff at Cardiff Dogs Home are paid council workers, and the Friends volunteers work closely with them to help find the perfect home for each and every dog that finds itself homeless in Cardiff Dogs Home.
The Dogs for Rehoming threads are posted for forum visitors who are interested in adopting a dog from Cardiff Dogs Home to see pictures, and read about the dogs. At the foot of each rehoming thread is a link to information regarding the adoption procedure. If anyone is interested in adopting a dog, they are asked to contact the staff at Cardiff Dogs Home, talk to the staff about dogs which may be suitable for them, and complete an application form.
Forum visitors do not want to see off-topic discussions on the rehoming threads. It does not help the dogs find their new homes, and is of no interest whatsoever to someone who wishes to adopt a dog. Moreover it can be extremely off-putting for someone who is simply wishing to find a forever friend.
All the initial posts on the rehoming threads are posted by our volunteer rehoming team. And we are extremely grateful to our Purple Pilgrims who actually walk the dogs, know the dogs, and can add something that potential rehomers will find interesting and useful. Comments which are made which do not help promote the dogs in this way will from now on be removed.
This has been posted in 'Chat' We are more than happy to discuss naming of the dogs, how Friends work with the Council, what happens to donations, pretty much anything really in here! But please respect the dogs' rehoming threads. They are the one opportunity for our dogs to find their special family.
Thanks folks
