Lovely write up's on Ickle Red. All the pilgrims are spot on barking is just that barking,no aggressive behaviour nothing, like I say about her it's just hot air. She's a smart cookie and very loving and very clean. But don't take my word for it come and see for yourself. Ickle Red xxx

Staffies are well known for their lively personality and affectionate nature, and boy, this little lady is blessed with these traits in abundance! So I'm utterly flummoxed - after seeing the wonderful walker's tales and meeting rosy Red - as to why her forever home still eludes her?! Yes, she likes to bark a little, but that's just her way of vocalising - in the main - how joyful she's feeling! As my fellow volunteer walkers have stated - it has nothing to do with aggression or dominance. The barking I witnessed yesterday was to say a doggy hello to me, before we went on our walk, and to a member of staff returning back to the Home from his lunch break - Red was clearly over the moon to see him - it was a lovely, wonderful moment. The barking she does with other dogs is short-lived. We encountered a few dogs on our walk and she only barked at two of them, and once she had said her helloes, she just wanted to continue on her way - indeed she walked part of the way down the lane alongside the fab Bowser, without barking (after having an initial woof at him). Good girl! It's an absolute delight to be in Red's company. Show her affection and she'll wriggle around on her back with the widest Staffie grin you are ever likely to encounter. Moreover, she makes these really adorable little snorting sounds whilst having a sniff about...so cute. Please, please don't overlook Red whilst looking for that special companion - she will provide you with the perfect opportunity to experience the joy of dog ownership, and it may well be the most rewarding thing you'll ever do...

Oh little Red, why are you still looking for your forever home? Your affectionate, loving, and you do amazing piggy Staffie noises when you are walking! She had put a smile on my face no more than a few seconds after wee set off as she decided to do her trademark ' Staffie Roll ' in the middle of the lane! And about another 15 times during the walk. Look at her little face, sure somebody has a Little Red sized space on their sofa

Hi vicky1967 . You'll need to contact the Home directly to get more information on Red, as this forum is run by volunteers. I know that Red has gotten along fine with most dogs on and off lead, but any pets (cats included) of your own would have to be brought to the Home to be introduced by staff to see if they're a good match. The Home will be able to give you more details, including age/approx. age, and information on how to start an application etc.
After a few weeks of absence from dog walking, we popped along to the Home yesterday raring to go! There were so many new names on the list, and so many familiar faces who've been rehomed (yay!), that we were a little unsure of who to take out. In the end we couldn't resist taking our gorgeous Red out and, as ever, she was just wonderful. Her little tail was wagging so much I thought it might fly off in the other direction! She had a bit of a cough yesterday, possibly from barking in her kennel, but we made sure to note it down and let the staff know just in case. She walked almost perfectly with barely any pulling and was only a little vocal with some passing Lurcher-types, while silent with other dogs we passed. Her bark can sound a little gruff but it's just how her bark is! Her tail is always wagging and there's just no aggression in her - just a little lady who's still puppy-like and needs a little positive training and socialisation to round her out. Once we left the busy road and headed towards the park, out came the tennis ball and down Red went, legs in the air and tennis ball being munched on. She almost disappeared into the long grass further down the path and was quite reluctant to leave it - understandably so! It was a lovely sunny morning and I imagine after being in her kennel all night, a nice lie down in the soft grass was just what she'd been looking forward to. After a while we regrettably had to head back and, with a little persuasion and a treat, we managed to coax Red back into a little trot. She's a gorgeous little lady and so affectionate. She just loves people and wants nothing more than to play and have a cuddle. On our way back we stopped to give directions to a couple who were trying to find the Home and they definitely cooed a bit over Red - who can blame them? We did meet them back at the Home, so fingers crossed they later went to see Red on their own. If you are interested in Red, please take her out for a walk. She's been at the Home for so long already, she really deserves a new family of her own.

This is brilliant! So happy for Red and her new family. I was waiting for Vince to come out so I didn't get to give her a quick fuss, but I know Dad was able to say hello and give her a much deserved belly rub. Thrilled she's finally found her forever home!

We thought we'd pop up and say hello and thank you all for your hard work. Red is settled into her new home and visited the Food and Drink festival in the Bay this weekend where she didn't steal any sausages (win) and was very good when we had dinner at Bill's outside. I've figured that as long as you have a tennis ball and cheese, she'll pretty much do anything. We also bought her a 12 pack of tennis balls and let her have them all at once which was hysterical. I've never seen a dog so excited and confused at the same time ('I picked this one up already?! Why is it still here?!'). We've got some work to do socialising her but you have all built some really solid foundations. Any dog that spends 6 months in kennels and still comes out like a yo-yo is something special. Red really is testament to how much the volunteers contribute to CDH, especially in terms of time and support. I still don't understand why she was there 6 months but I'm glad she was because she's now mine Grace and Phil (and Red)
