Please say a big hello to Tess.
Tess has found herself at CDH and although she has a microchip, her owners can't be contacted! She doesn't let this dampen her spirits though and when I arrived Susie already had her out and I was greeted like a long lost friend! We made the most of the dry weather and took Tess to the river for a little sniff about.
There's two things that really get Tess's attention, treats...
and some cuddles....
Tess is a lovely girl, very friendly and affectionate and when she's able to come out for some walks, I'm sure she's going to love going for a nice long stroll too!
Tess will be available for rehoming on 12th March , but the staff at the home will take applications now. If you would like more information on her please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. Mon/Thurs till 6pm

When the owner details are out of date, do the dogs home know you can find out which vets implanted the id chip and then contact the vets to see if they can search for owner details by the id chip number. They might not be able to give out the owner's details but could contact them themselves. Just a thought. I'm sure the staff already know this.

Thanks behappy, yes, the staff make every effort to locate the owner. They automatically send out an official 'impound notice' to the address registered on the 'chip too if the phone numbers are out of date. Tess was 'chipped in 2010, who knows how many times she may have been passed on since then? She's a lovely girl. Our FB followers are really good at checking dogslost pages, both locally and nationally. We often get messages signposting us to posts about lost dogs which may be one of our residents. xx

Got to spend some time with the lovely Tess today What a lovely girl, full of life, and seems to know the recipe for happiness despite finding herself homeless. She loved sniffing, jumping ( up on a rock) and giving lovely kisses Very interested in all manners of waterfoul on the river, had to have a stop on the bridge and have a nose! Lovely girl who I hope won't be waiting too long #hangwiththehappinesstess

I didn't plan to take Tess for a walk today.. but the dogs I wanted to see were either not on the list anymore or out already. I fell in love immediately with this gorgeous girl. She was excited at first but very easy to walk and we enjoyed her company immensely. To be honest now I wish I had a garden I was so impressed with her energy and with how well behaved she was. So we walked ...and we jogged And we admired the views (she met a few dogs but she was only excited.. probably wanted to play) Then we had a little break And we decided to immortalise our friendship with a selfie ..At the end we said goodbye with a hug I hope we'll have the opportunity to see Tess again.

We had our first walk today with the lovely Tess. She was very gentle on the lead, waited patiently at the traffic lights and didn't pull at all (apart from when she spotted a squirrel in the trees at the end of Penarth Road - but the squirrel was way too quick and scampered up a nearby tree!). We took her down to Penarth Marina where she admired the boats...... We had a short rest on a bench where she sniffed out the treats in our bag.... She took them off us very gently then enjoyed a nice neck massage.... Then off we all went over the Pont y Werin Bridge and down Dunleavy Drive before returning back via the Ely River Trail. Hope you enjoyed our 2 hour walk, lovely girl! We certainly did, you were an absolute pleasure to take out.

Hi I think Tess is lovely. I'm looking for an older and chilled dog as our dog is still quite young but I think needs a companion as he loves other dogs. I also have 3 children aged 9, 7 and 5 years. I'm guessing she is at least 6 years old as other posts have said that was when her micro chip was fitted. Does anyone know if she is good with children and other dogs and if she is a gentle girl? I'm coming up from Bristol on Wednesday with our boy Jasper to get him micro chipped and neutered. (He's from CDH). I've been told the staff are busy on Vets days so I hope I manage to get in a visit then. Obviously Jasper wont be able to meet her on Wednesday as the poor honey will be very sore! Sx

How can this beautiful girl still be in CDH - she should be on her forever sofa by now - love the character in her eyes - she'll make someone very happy when they take her home - hope she's not waiting too much longer. I have two lurchers - one boy and one girl - they make wonderful happy pets and life is never dull - I can't fail but smile when I see them! Please consider Tess as an addition to your family! Good luck girl XX

We have taken Tess out for a walk several times, she is lovely to walk and so excited to be out. Today we had the added bonus of taking her out along with Sandy - these two loved each other's company and were both so well-behaved. Here are some pics of them both waiting patiently for their treats..... Tess didn't pull although she was obviously excited at being out with her buddy - the only time we heard a peep out of her was when we passed Teddy en route. Tess is a great dog - hope she is not waiting too long for her forever home.
