Only 5 weeks to go - let's get this show on the road
Friends plays a big part in the organisation and running of the Fonmon Show, and we have been extremely generously rewarded for our help in previous years! On top of everything we raised with our Barks & Spencer Stall, Doggy Tombola, Raffle and 'Have-a-go' Events, we received a bumper cheque for £2,500 from the organisers after the show
This is much more fun than standing outside Tesco's with a bucket collecting people's small change - so if you can help, even if it's just for an hour or two, here's your chance to show your support for our dogs, and be a part of the best family fun day out in South Wales!
All the main 'jobs' are listed below, some people have already put their hands up, but there is no such thing as 'too many volunteers'! Some other charities may offer to cover some of the key roles listed, so this isn't necessarily written in stone, but we'd like to get as many people involved as possible. Whether you can help for the day, or are able to help out for just an hour or two, please post up with your preferred 'job' or if you are happy to be a 'floater' for a few hours that's great too! Many hands make light work!
Pre Show If you can't come on the day, or want to come on the day and just enjoy the proceedings with your family, you can still be involved! The organisers will need help marking out the pitches and erecting fencing on Tuesday 24th, Wednesday 25th before the show, and on the day before the show.
4-6 people 1 day (Tuesday 24th or Wednesday 25th). If you have walked Captain and Bob, this is right up your street! Not exactly hard labour, but it is manual work
Sunday 29th - All Hands on Deck To help set up our own gazebos and 'Have-a-Go' events; setting out of bins, water bowls, signage; helping with marking out pitches. If you have a hour or two spare, please join us for the pre-show setting up! Time - 2pm till 5.pm
Raffle Organiser and raffle ticket sellers The show organisers have invited us to run the raffle again this year! We already have some fabulous prizes! First prize is £200 cash! 6 hotel/spa pamper days, our famous 'Hair of the Dog' basket of booze, a Pet Portrait Voucher and 'many other prizes'
Organiser 1 person - to distribute tickets before and on the day, change floats, tally tickets/cash, and man the raffle stall at the Show.
JenC - you up for this?
Ticket Sellers - to sell tickets before and on the day, to colleagues, friends & family before the show, and to Show visitors on the day. A nice 'job' if you don't want to be stood on a stall or manning a post, great opportunity to wander around and watch the proceedings/events/displays!
GinaTicket Sellers - ? Anyone who can only help out for an hour or two, or are happy to wander around with tickets throughout the day. And anyone who is able to take a few books pre-show to sell to co-workers, family & friends.
On the DayExhibition/Trade Stand Stewards Are you an early bird? We need two people to man the main gate from 6.00am till 9.00am to direct trade stands to their pitches. Once the traders are all in position, you are free to go home to bed, or you can stay for the day
2 People - 3 hours at early doors! 6.00am till 9.00am
Water Bowl Attendant(s) There will be plenty of water bowls around the rings etc. We need someone to check and replenish the bowls. Lovely green trolley provided! Another nice way to play a key role without missing the main attractions and events.
1 or 2 people - From 10.00 am till 4.00pm Charli and Shelley
Dog Show - the Main Ring This is where the action is! The Dog Show attracts literally thousands of entries, and this year the Dog Show is running from 10am till 4.30 without a break!
Team Entries Becky, Emma and Rhys will be heading up Team Entries. There are no 'quiet times' - this is full on for the duration! It's a sit-down job, but hard work, and there is no respite! As well as taking money, you will be asked zillions of questions, 'where is..../ what time is...../ how do I...../ where do I..... the reply to which is 'go and ask Susie in the Commentary Box'.
4 people - 8.30 till 4.00, with lunch break
Team Admissions Headed up by Ricki and Michele, Team Admissions will have a sit-down-but-don't-stop-job 'on the door'. The organisers will be providing helpers, but additional peeps required throughout the day.

Volunteer Support - This is another 'fun-on-the-run' job with lots of opportunities to enjoy the displays, exhibitions, etc. Some of our key volunteers will be glued to their posts from early doors to packing up time. We need someone to check in with them, make sure they have everything they need, to be a touchstone and point of contact.
Nicola and Julia Marshals for rings two and three - Helpers are needed in the two display rings. Commentary in the rings is covered, all that's needed is a 'responsible person' to ensure a point of contact and we don't get any streakers or uninvited intruders in the rings.
