Please welcome the utterly captivating Heather [img style="max-width:100%;" src=" Heather looks a little world-weary, she has very sore skin, particularly her ears and legs, but she is only 4-5 years old. Without a doubt she is going to look like a different girl with a little help, time, TLC and treatment from the vols, staff and vets at the Home. It didn't take Michele long to work out that Heather is an extremely affectionate little cwtchkins Duly toiletted, the great outdoors didn't seem to hold Heather's interest much, so it was back to the vet room for... well, whatever she wanted really! ...and yes, it was cuddles please Michele! Wanna come up? You betcha! For the duration of our 'getting to know you' time in the vet room, Heather's default place was Michele's lap, but Heather was happy to enough to leave her 'safe place' to see what else was on offer... We think Heather probably mitched off puppy school, she doesn't know her basic commands, but she is naturally agile, and was quick to learn how to wheedle treats from us! Who could resist this this little pose? And in between cwtches and treats, we offered Heather her pick from the toy box, but she simply treated them like little puppies, and placed them carefully on her blankie.... She was a little bemused and worried by the squeaky OMG what IS that? It speaks! And she took herself off for a few minutes to compose herself. Heather has been seen by the vet and is having treatment for her skin condition, but she is still a little 'scritchy'. Get this bandana off me please! Then it was back to the business of collecting up her 'babies', including the squeaky.... And making sure they were all warm and safe... Who knows what goes on in a little dog's mind? Heather's tummy tells a story, without a doubt Heather has been churning out puppies for years, but whatever her past, she has an amazing future ahead of her. No more babies, no more sores, and loads more cuddles for this little girl! If Heather's owners don't come forward for her, she will be available for rehoming from 7th April. The staff will take applications on her immediately however, and if you would like more information on Heather please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. This little pooch kinda broke my heart when we got her out for her pics. Such a gentle gentle little soul who had clearly not had a good life to now.
No more babies for you little one, your life is now yours and we'll find you a forever home with the warmest sofa, the best treats and an endless supply of cwtches. Anyone up for this wonderful honour???

Oh my word, I had the absolute pleasure of this little un's company for a walk yesterday and she is just a sweetheart Heather walked lovely on the lead and she wasn't bothered by anything. Her little tail didn't stop wagging for the whole hour we had her out, and it got even waggier as we passed people and other dogs I knelt down at one point to get a stone out of my boot and this happened She just jumped right up on my lap and gave me the loveliest cwtch Bas was in the yard when we got back to CDH and after careful introductions, we took them in the garden together. They were cracking, they had a little game of chase and were happy to share a tub of pate This little miss has clearly had a dreadful life so far. She must have had litter after litter and judging by the state of her skin, I doubt very much that she has ever had any home comforts It amazes me how dogs can be so forgiving and trusting when they have been treated this way by the hands of humans Its all up from here though girlie, you will be loved and looked after whilst you are at CDH until you find your forever home and then the world will be your oyster x

We took Heather out for the first time yesterday afternoon. She just seemed so happy to be out and about. Her tail didn't stop wagging the whole time! She was great on the lead, no pulling at all. We met Junior and Chilli whilst out on our walk and although she showed some interest there was no barking, growling or aggression at all - in fact she was so excited she kept standing up on her hind legs and reminded us of that little dog from the film The Artist. We stopped for a rest on a bench by the river and Heather spotted a duck on the water and was mesmerized but when it passed by she was straight up on my lap for a cwtch and made noises like a cat purring! She enjoyed a few treats and took them ever so gently......... She was quite happy to go back to CDH and continued wagging her tail until the bitter end. In fact, I think she considers she is in doggy heaven right now with all the attention, care, walks and treats she is getting after the life she has probably been used to up until now. If you are looking for a little dog which walks nicely, doesn't pull and will give you lots of love then Heather is the girl for you.

Oh Heather what a gorgeous little snuggle monster. I genuinely don't think I've ever met a dog that seems to be so grateful for some affection. She is such a cutie! We went for a lovely walk yesterday, and she was so easy on the lead - no pulling, no barking, nothing other than lots of cwtches and tail wagging. This girl has clearly had a really tough life so far - and yet she's so trusting and seems to be happy in people's company. She needs some tlc and some pampering asap - please can someone do this for her! xx

Took Heather out this morning and what can I say...I'm in love with this little sweetheart. Heather was an absolute angel on her walk, no pulling and no fuss when it came to walking past other dogs. She had a lovely wag in her tail all the way round and was always there to give you a cuddle when ever you came to stop. Heather is just one of those dogs who instantly melts your heart within a minute of meeting and for her to be so trusting and warm to complete strangers after experiencing what appears to be a cold and harsh past, it's a great credit to her inner character. Heather it was so hard saying goodbye to you after our walk and as much as I would love to take you out again next week for my own selfish reasons, I honestly hope that you will be in your forever home!!! If you are on here looking for a great addition to your family then please look at Heather as she truly deserves to receive the love and comfort she appears to give to everyone she meets. Good luck Heather!

Heather met me Wednesday morning with a happy tail wag. We set off in sunshine for a stroll that turned into a trot and then Heather was distracted by a car boot being open. I think she would have loved to hop in the car. Heather was so happy to meet the lovely lady standing next to the car that she forgot about walkies!
We did start walking again, but then Heather stopped for some cuddle time. Goodness, she really is a snuggle bunny. Heather looked at me with her deep eyes and climbed up into my lap... snuggles in the sunshine.
Our walk continued with sniffs to be sniffed. Heather happily passed dogs, pedestrians, and cyclists with a tail wag. She met an off-lead dog who turned out to be well-mannered. Heather is a sweet-natured, adorable dog who wants to make everyone around her happy. Take her for a walk, and offer her a home!

Thanks you sooooo much for that fabulous update Sandy is the luckiest little girl ever to have such a patient and understanding new mammy! So many people expect a dog to fit into their new life with ne'er a backward glance, as if it's the most natural thing in the world for a dog to have everything s/he has ever known snatched away from them, then to spend weeks in a concrete kennel, surrounded by the sounds of strange dogs, to be walked daily by people they have never met before, and may never meet again..... ....and then to be taken to a new home, with established resident dogs, sights, smells, routines that are all new to them, and if everything isn't absolutely 'perfect' from the moment the dog arrives, some people think it's absolutely fine to bring them back to the home within days, sometimes hours, because 'it didn't work out'. Well done for recognising that she has probably always had to fight for every morsel of food she could find to keep herself alive, and to be able to keep safe the numerous litters she has obviously had... And for understanding that for this little lady, a warm, dry bed represents the absolute height of luxury that she isn't going to want to give up easily. Her little body was absolutely covered in urine burns when she arrived, due to her having to sit, sleep, rest and in all likelihood raise her babies in urine-sodden 'bedding'. And for resisting the temptation to stick her in a bath immediately, just because she is a little less 'fragrant' than some people would find acceptable.... I simply cannot tell you how happy your post had made me, what an amazing forever home Sandy has found! It is with the greatest of pleasure that I'm going to move Heather to where she truly belongs - 'Happy in her forever Home'

I arrived at the home yesterday asking if I could walk Heather as I'd not been lucky enough before. I was told she had been rehomed and was so happy. I've just been in tears reading the last 2 updates and thinking about what her life must have been like and how it's now changed. It's always so nice to hear how the dogs are doing after they have been re homed and Sandy looks like she is settling in well...A very lucky girl x

This is the best news!! So happy that Heather (or Sandy) has left the building and it looks as though she will be doted on by her new family which is no more than she deserves. I was lucky enough to take heather out quite a few times and whilst I'm going to miss our many cwtches I'm glad she's in her new home. All the best lovely girl x

I thought id share some random pics of Sandy and a little update 7 months on.....She is a happy little lady and gets lots of affection. She's mummy's little shadow and is loved very much. Sadly, she is going in for an operation in the morning to remove possibly 2 of her nipples as has suspected mammary cancer. But, she has her first holiday to look forward to over Xmas, a weekend of beach and forest walks down the Gower with her brother and sister! And, with much hopefulness on my part ..... many years of holidays to come!!
