Please whisper a gentle welcome to Penny This darling little pup is only 4-5 months old, and was brought into us via Petherton vets with a badly broken leg. Penny was taken straight to Summerhills vets for xrays. Although surgery to repair her leg was deemed to be complex and challenging - at her tender age, young bones are as thin as chopsticks and very fragile - it was decided to give her the best possible chance of full recovery, and rather than amputate she endured hours of surgery to pin and plate her leg. Just over a week later, Penny is recovering well in the tender care of two of our trusted volunteers. Her recovery is going to be slow and protracted, and Penny is on strict crate rest for the next 6 weeks. Penny is due to have her staples removed at Cardiff Dogs Home on Friday, 17th June, and will be staying at the Home until Sunday evening, so if you'd like to meet her on Friday 17th, Saturday 18th or Sunday 19th, please let us know. Penny is past her due date, but her lovely foster mum & dad will be taking care of her until the vets are happy that she is well enough to be rehomed. Please note - anyone interested in adopting Penny will need to provide a vet reference, and homechecks will be required. Penny pops, where do I start. She is the most beautiful version of Goofy I've ever met. Big brown eyes, velvet ears and the most loving personality you could ever want. But she's also a total goof-ball. Despite this, she is doing so well for such a young pup in crate rest, which is a highly unpleasant and anxious time for any dog. She's settled into routine well and was quick to pick up toileting outside, as long as she's got her toys she will amuse herself. Of course, she is only a baby still and is desperate to play, and it's our duty to make sure she rests now so she can play happily and healthily for the rest of her life; no matter how longingly she looks at us! After only a week with us, we think she would do best in a family environment where people are home most of the day, where she can be taken for a good long run twice a day to stretch out those long legs! She will have had enough lying down to last her a year by the time she's better and will need regular walks and stimulation, as well as a family that is patient with her puppy energy but committed to socialising her and making up for the training she will be missing out of during her healing time. For all that she's been through in her short life she deserves the best from here on in. She will be a wonderful addition to any family. She already makes us smile everyday, and if we weren't sensible enough to recognise that she needs more than we can offer her, she'd already have a home Only the best for this girl! ♡ good luck my sweet heart ♡

So Penny came home with us a little while ago and after a few days barking and howling in her crate, she's settled down beautifully! She whimpers and grunts to let us know she certainly isn't happy in the crate but is getting on with it enjoying her chew toys when she's in there, and when we do take her for a short walk she definitely makes the most of it, stretching out her legs. She's met a few family members and loved them all (not sure the cats were quite so keen!), and has already had a play date with a friends dog who came to the house to visit.
I can't upload images from the iPad, but have tweeted a few pics from @lydiam87 to the friends of the dogs account for anyone who wants to see her now 🐾 X

Penny would like to say a massive 'thank you' to everyone who donated towards her veterinary bills, and to her foster mammy and daddy, Rachel and Lewis, who took such very good care of her during her recovery period Good luck in your forever home Penny! Be nice to your kitty sibs, and love your new mummy and daddy with all your heart!
