Look who arrived at Newport City Dogs Home today...
This gorgeous young pup was brought in unceremoniously, with nothing. No lead, no collar, not even a name.
In honour of our British sporting legends who will be competing in the Olympics for the next 16 days, we decided to name him Rio!
Poor Rio is still a bit bewildered at ending up homeless at the tender age of 6 months. He was brought in 'as a stray' but one of our eagle eyes volunteers remembers seeing him for sale on a local selling page recently. So heaven only knows how many times this young pup has changed hands in his young life.
When we say 'he came in with nothing', that's not totally true... Rio arrived with very very sore skin around his neck and paws, and his tummy is a little swollen, which could indicate he has never been wormed. It shouldn't happen to a pup, really, there is no need. Shame on whoever bred him, whoever bought him, whoever passed him on, and whoever abandoned him to his fate...
Rio was a little bit uncertain of us at first, so we let Bas show him around, and that soon got his tail up!
And within no time, Rio was frollicking around the garden, like a puppy should!
Rio had a busy afternoon considering he had only just arrived! He was more than happy to meet and greet visitors to the Home, and was sooooooo gentle with the young humans!
And he greeted Rosie, who had popped in to groom Dylan Bichon, like an old friend....
Wowsers Rio - what a busy afternoon you've had! Time for some chillin' in the sun....
As Rio was brought in 'as a stray' he will have to spend 7 days in the kennels before he can be rehomed, but it seems extremely unlikely that his owners are going to come back to claim him, so the staff will take applications on him immediately.
If you'd like to meet him, pop up to Newport City Dogs Home!
For more information on Rio, please contact NEWPORT CITY DOGS HOME.
TEL 01633 290 902 between 11am - 1pm or 2pm - 4pm, or pop in for a visit! No appointment needed.
Rehoming fees are from £100 - £200 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment, and microchip. It is a condition of the rehoming contract that all dogs are neutered/spayed. Subsidised vouchers are available at £35, this is in addition to the rehoming fee.
All applicants will be homechecked prior to approval, and you have to promise, on your heart, that the next home that Rio goes to will be for the rest of his life. [img style="max-width:100%;" src="
