Please whisper a gentle welcome to Mister Bowie If you like squishy faces, you are going to love Mr Bowie It was the first time I'd met him today, and we went into the garden for some off-lead play. Mr Bowie was perfectly polite, but didn't really want to be bothered with the strange woman with the camera, and he simply pottered around, doing his own thing. Mr Bowie is extremely inquisitive, and left no corner unexplored! He almost gave the impression he was looking for something, he wasn't particularly interested in the toys we offered him, or the tastiest treat morsels, but Mr Bowie was definitely on a mission to find something! Who lives in 'ere then?Mister Bowie arrived at the Home as a stray, and it has to be said he really isn't the best condition. He has an extremely sore neck with wounds that need to be bathed daily, and which appears to be the result of having a collar embedded, possibly (but we can't be certain) a prong collar He also has sore ears at the moment, but he doesn't complain, and when we took him into the vet room for his medication and wound dressing, his best friend Rob was waiting for him, and we immediately saw the affectionate side of this lovely boy. He greeted Rob like an old friend... And really, it was the first time I saw Mr Bowie totally relaxed and chilled.... Even though his ears and neck must be horribly sore, Mr Bowie didn't murmur as Rob dressed his wounds, and treated his ears. It's heartbreaking that a dog can be so used to pain that he doesn't seem to notice any more. Put your past behind you lovely boy, you're in safe and loving hands now If Mr Bowie's owner doesn't come forward for him, and it seems unlikely that that will happen, he will be available for rehoming from 29th September. If you would like more information on him please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. Mon/Thurs till 6pm For more information about the rehoming process at Cardiff Dogs Home, please click on the link below: REHOMING PROCESS

As a child of the Ziggy generation, this guys name tickled me. So given the chance my wife and I signed him out and away we went ..... except we didn't, Mr Bowie seemed to feel the need to 'water' every bush in the lane! And I mean EVERY bush!! Funny at first, it seems an almost obsessive need to mark territory. Having established that it couldn't possibly be just a need to urinate....... no one goes that often, we moved to the centre of the road and had a little, get to know you session. Mr Bowie, (or Bowie as we called him, a bit presumptuous I guess but hey- ho ..he can call me Grey!) seemed to relax and we made better progress down the road. Baglady has mentioned the nasty wound on his neck, it's healing now but still looks sore and we were careful to watch where the lead was situated to avoid rubbing. I really hope this is a self inflicted injury, because to think someone could do this to a gentle creature like this is .... well horrific! Anyway we had reached Penarth Rd and were now making excellent progress, its marathon day, the roads are closed and the runners have yet to arrive, so this is what heaven is like, peace quiet and loads of space Mr Bowie is a joy to walk .... now he has settled, no pulling, interested and unfazed by pretty much anything, certainly other dogs are interesting but not enough to bother our guy. initially quite self contained we now found that he would stop and look up for a little affection and reassurance, this guy is a real sweetheart, hidden in a little mixed up soul. We stopped for a drink and little treat, wow this fella has the gentlest 'take' I've ever come across, that wrinkly face sort of hoovers it from your hand Back through Grangemoor Park, bit muddy, but he loved it, few more stops if he could get under the bushes, but nothing like the beginning of the walk, and finally back onto Penarth Road. Only now there are thousands of runners, joggers ....quite a few walkers and lots and lots of ( "why did I do this?") staggerers. We watched for a few minutes to gauge Mr Bowies reaction, but honestly there wasn't one. He was more interested in the lampposts then all these people so we joined the flow heading back, no trouble at all, this guy is a star As a final test we met Thelma coming out of the industrial estate, as ever she got a little ..'overexcited!' But apart from a very quizzical expression, no response or need to get involved from MB ..well done We left him back at the home feeling that here was a very gentle guy, who has gone through some pretty tough times, and has the scars to prove it, but it hasn't fundamentally changed his nature or temprement, in a loving home and with a little coaxing this fellow will be a joy to have around. He so deserves that. X

We took the very gorgeous and squishy-faced Mister Bowie out yesterday morning. The Home was actually quite busy and with so few dogs in the kennels (yay!) we weren't sure we'd be able to try him out, but luck was on our side. Bowie is a very handsome boy and incredibly gentle. While he tugged slightly down the lane it was never too strong that we couldn't keep control or keep up. He's a man who likes to have a good sniff and leave his mark, so be prepared to visit every tree and bush for a quick check-up. Once we were into the walk he didn't feel the need to mark every few feet quite so much, and he trotted along wonderfully just ahead of us or at our sides. I think due to his healing wounds his neck can get a little irritated at times, so every so often Bowie would shake his head out to adjust where the lead is. His cheeks made the most adorable flapping noise when he did this, and I couldn't help but laugh each time. As there were quite a few dogs out we ended up meeting quite a few, but Bowie showed only a little interest in each and after the first two he barely noticed them at all. He did lovingly glance at every person and cyclist we passed, hoping for some attention, but he was very well behaved around all of them. We figured that having marked so much he might want some water but Bowie was more interested in the treats that might or might not have been hiding in the bag. He sat very gently (and elegantly) for us and his mouth barely touched our hands as he took the treats - probably the gentlest treat-taker I've ever met! He wasn't overly fussed on having a cwtch, but he was more than content to sit with us for a few moments before we carried on. Mister Bowie is an absolutely gorgeous dog and soft as can be. That wrinkly-face would fit in quite nicely on someone's sofa at home!

Had my regular walk with the beautiful Mr. Bowie yesterday. Another gent who didn't mind the rain and who was clearly just very happy to be out and about!
Mr. Bowie is not the most interactive of dogs (I've found most Sharpei's seem quite independent types) but he is very gentle taking treats and will allow you to have a bit of a cuddle - as long as you don't overdo it!!
I know Mr. Bowie doesn't like going back into his kennel (who can blame him?) - let's hope he finds his forever home soon so kennels will be a thing of the past for him x

Had my 1st walk with the cuddly faced Mr Bowie today. What a truly handsome chappie. We trotted along quite nicely down the lane away from the home. Mr Bowie is really good on his lead however he did have a few pup like moments when he would suddenly decide he wanted to have a little sprint and not having my daps on today I wasn't able to oblige so bless he had to make do with a fast waddle. Mr Bowie does like to stop, explore and water almost every single lamppost, tree or whatever took his fancy and in true Shar-pei style can kick up that grass. The staff had already said that he wasn't one for fusses so I made sure that I got on with the job in hand and made his walk the most enjoyable I could. I do hope that his forever home is just around the corner and he'll be opening his very own presents on Xmas morning with his new family 💞💞

I was just about to leave yesterday afternoon when I noticed that Mr. Bowie was the only one not to have been out for a second walk (many thanks to all the weekday walkers - the pooches have been getting plenty of exercise the last few weeks, which is amazing!). Though we didn't have as long as usual, Mr. Bowie savoured every moment, sniffing everything in sight and even accepting quite a few cuddles along the way. Bowie is looking great since his recent bath, his coat is shiny and he seems much happier in general bless him.
This beautiful boy has been at CDH for almost 3 months and he really needs a loving home, I hope he's not waiting too much longer.

Wowzers, the rehoming news just gets better and better, Cooper and now the gorgeous Mr Bowie.
This fella served more than his fair share of time in hotel CDH and am so made up for him.
Will miss his little squishy face, but now you are free to live the doggy dream you deserve 💞💞
