Well, here’s a real treat for the Spaniel lovers.
This handsome young man is Cookie, who was found as a stray and has already “done his time” in the Dogs’ Home. Hard to believe that nobody has come forward to claim him, and without a microchip or tag, it is impossible to trace his former home.
Cookie is only a young boy (estimated to be about six months old) and is very, very lively and inquisitive. He doesn’t seem to have had much training, but was happy to give us a lovely smile and an attempt at a “beg” to earn a tasty treat.
Although he obviously didn't know how to play with a ball, he is a true working type of spaniel, and loves sniffing. I bet he would make a fantastic search dog!, with his boundless energy and determination to follow a scent, wherever it took him.
It doesn’t take this boy long to get to know you and, once he does, he is very happy to give cwtches and smiles to all.
Cookie had fun exploring the rehoming hub, and soon decided that the new armchair was much more comfortable than his kennel.
I did take Cookie home, for a short while, and am pleased to say that he is an excellent car traveller. He will tolerate being in a crate for short periods, if necessary, but is obviously happier to be free. As Cookie showed a lot of interest in the resident cat and was absolutely obsessed with my chickens, I feel that he would be best in a home without these temptations.
Can you offer our lovely young boy a home?
If you want more information about Cookie, please contact the staff at Newport City Dogs' Home on 01633 290 902 between 11am - 1pm or 2pm - 4pm, Monday to Saturday or pop in for a visit! No appointment needed!
Rehoming fees are from £100 - £200 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment, and microchip. It is a condition of the rehoming contract that all dogs are neutered/spayed. Subsidised vouchers are available at £35, this is in addition to the rehoming fee.
All applicants will be homechecked prior to approval.
