Oh puppy Please whisper a gentle welcome to Max. He is just 9 months old, a bichon/terrier mix, and has been signed over to Newport City Dogs Home as his owner's landlord has told them they don't have permission to keep a dog. Max arrived on the weekend, so we haven't had a chance to meet him yet, or take pics for his rehoming thread, but he previous owner has sent us these pics and is happy for us to share them. Max has lived with young children who he adores, but he still needs some basic training. Max's new family should consider taking him to Puppy Classes to help him socialise around other dogs, and get some basic life skills under his belt If you want more information about Max, or would like to meet him, please contact the staff at Newport City Dogs' Home on 01633 290 902 between 11am - 1pm or 2pm - 4pm, Monday to Saturday or pop in for a visit! As he has been signed over, Max is available for rehoming now, but Newport City Dogs Home does not rehome dogs immediately before Christmas, so applicants would need to discuss timings with the staff. Rehoming fees are from £100 - £200 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment, and microchip. It is a condition of the rehoming contract that all dogs are neutered/spayed. All applicants will be homechecked prior to approval.

Poor little Max has been returned to the Home. It seems likely Max was not getting the stimulation and exercise he needed, and he was like a little bottle of pop when we met him this morning! He has grown up a little, but he's still the adorable little fella we know and love!

Hiya
Seems it was just a completely unsuitable home who couldn't give a young pup the lifestyle he deserves. I think maybe they saw the word 'bichon' and imagined he would be a very low maintenance and quiet little lapdog. There's a lot of terrier in this little livewire! He wants to be out and about, he's inquisitive and lively, like a young dog should be!
Good luck - let us know how you get on! x

Had the chance to take Max on a little stroll this morning, he's a lovely dog with bags of energy but easy on the lead. He did get a little excited when a white van drove passed - was slightly keen to chase if given the chance but easy to distract & carried on with his walk beautifully. We bumped into Polly (young staff x pup) and she promptly followed Max all the way to the end of Stephenson Street - well done Polly. On the return journey a workman stop us for a chat and Max greeted him well and sat quietly while he made a fuss of him. Max seems at ease around other dogs and waited patiently in the garden before returning to his kennel. Hopefully Max won't be waiting around too long for his forever sofa, good luck young fella. Bx

Nice to see you at Newport yesterday! Did it feel a bit like 'Blind Date' We always say the dog who needs you most will find you! Hope to see you on Saturday, best get shopping! We found out yesterday that Max is verrrrrrry excited around kitties! He's young and we're sure he could learn to live with cats, but he will need a confident and patient rehomer if there are kitties around. Dogs? bring 'em on! Max simply loves doggy company and we think he will be happiest living with a fur-friend and/or regular socialisation around other dogs.

Max was so excited to see Buddy his little tail was wagging at quite a speed. Don't think Buddy appreciated the barking though Max is such a fabulous little live wire... wish I could rehome him too

Hi I would love to come and meet max. We already have a boisterous three yr old terrier but we are looking for some company for her. Can I make arrangements to come down and see him?

Hiya! You can pop down and meet Max during any of our opening hours! However you would only be able to bring your terrier down after Tuesday as the dogs currently have a bit of kennel cough which they are being treated for. Hope to see you down there! Walked Max yesterday and he was a delight. He was lively and ready to play. We had a great run across the field, not easy for someone my age! He then adopted the nearby industrial estate as his own personal playground, rolling on the grass and finding great delight in playing with some abandoned work gloves. Also a great ball of old plastic wrapping caused great delight! Saying all this he was also more than happy to have some quiet time and a fuss not to mention a small treat!

Hello,
Im not sure if anyone here can help me, my Mam put an application form in for Max a little while ago, including all the references, but she hasn't heard anything yet and I can't seem to find a contact number. Is there any news of whats happening to him? Have he found his forever home with another family?
Thanks, Casey
