Awwwwww, Pete - what a cutie pie you are!
Pete is tiny - seriously, itsy bitsy teeny weeny! He's a yorkie chihuahua mix, and was brought into the Home by a kind member of the public who found him in a pretty poor state, unable even to carry his own weight, which is less than a bag of sugar!
But a little bit of tlc and a thorough check over from the vets have worked wonders! Pete has been aged at approximately 8 years old, but obviously it's not an exact science, he could be a little older than this. He does have luxating patellas on both his back legs - this means his kneecaps can move around, and in young dogs and certainly in dogs which have to carry a lot of weight, surgery is almost always recommended. However for a tiny dog like Pete, the risks of surgery may outweight any benefits, and he certainly isn't in any pain or discomfort at the moment, he walks around like a little show pony! So the staff and vets will be keeping a close eye on him over the next few days before making any decisions regarding surgery.
Pete is a funny little chap! He is very affectionate, loves being picked up and adores cuddles. He's playful, and for such a tiny little thing he has a very healthy appetite!
If you'd like to meet Pete please ask for him by name, as he is in the vet cages, and not in the main kennel block.
Pete will be available for rehoming from 13th January, provided the vets are happy for him to leave and he doesn't require surgery, so if you would like more information on him please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. Mon/Thurs till 6pm
