We're kicking off 2017 with some Meets & Greets this coming Friday and Saturday! The lovely peeps at Marks & Spencers Leckwith, are having in-store charity bike-rides in aid of Friends, and have asked if we can pop down with some pooches to support them! You bet we can! Meets and Greets are fabulous opportunities for our dogs to meet potential rehomers! And on a busy weekend, it can be a fabulous boost to our fundraising too! The dogs are relaxed and happy, and when people meet them in the middle of a shopping mall, they see a potential pet - not a homeless dog behind kennel bars.... We will be at Marks and Spencers, with our dogs, from 11 o'clock until about half past three. We would love for our Purple Pilgrims to join us! It's a beautiful walk from the Dogs Home, along the river bank to M&S, so if you can spare an extra hour or so when you come to walk your favourite dog on Friday or Saturday, please post up here! Everyone welcome! Please post up if you are able to come along, on Friday or Saturday, even if it's just for an hour or so!

Yes please from me. Even if I can't stay til 3 is that ok. Absolutely perfect Pete! We probably won't want to keep the any of the dogs out for the duration, so even if you can only come for an hour or so that will be a massive help! The more hands (and paws) the better!

We would both be happy to help out on Friday but unfortunately I think the walk from CDH to Leckwith and back is a tad too far for us oldies. Would be happy to walk a dog for an hour as normal then take it to Leckwith in our (estate) car if that is an option?

Sounds like a great excuse for a day off work! I'll be happy to walk there with one of the lovely residents (might take me a while ) or take in the car. I'll be at CDH by 10:00 Friday. Bx

FYI - Just checked google maps the walk along the river to M&S from CDH is just under 2 miles, so approx. 40 minutes at normal walking pace. Bx

We would both be happy to help out on Friday but unfortunately I think the walk from CDH to Leckwith and back is a tad too far for us oldies. Would be happy to walk a dog for an hour as normal then take it to Leckwith in our (estate) car if that is an option? It's a done deal - and I have the perfect little crowd pleaser for you! Meet Splash! This little guy is only five months old, he arrived at CDH today (Sunday), so will be seeing the vets tomorrow for his check-up and first vaccination, and will be able to come out for (gentle) walks from Friday. He'll definitely still be with us on on the weekend if no-one comes forward to claim him. As he's so young, he might not cope with the walk, but it would be a shame not to take him! So provided he hasn't been returned his owner, he has your name next to him for Friday! We'll make sure you have a crate to transport him, and you will need to sign a disclaimer - if he does anything awful if your car it's on you I'm afraid He's incredibly cute! And loves a cuddle - he's going to have the BEST time on Friday! Thanks both, it'll be great to have you along for this, especially on Friday, as we have a few hands up for Saturday but obviously a lot of our Pilgrims work Monday - Friday. Look forward to seeing you at CDH - OK to meet up at 10.30? x

Count me in I'll be there on Saturday for as long as you want me, looking forward to it can't wait 💜🤗😊 xxx Fab! Thanks so much! We don't decide until the day which dogs we are taking, things change by the day, by the hour sometimes - and it's always possible that the dogs we plan to take might be rehomed. But if you have a favourite let me know and I'll put your name next to him/her for you if possible. Look forward to seeing you Saturday, we'll be meeting up at CDH at 10 o'clock, but see my post below if you can't get down until later, no-one has to come from early doors and stay till the end, entirely up to you what time you come, and how long you stay. x

Steve Crandon (walker no 1153) isn't on the forum but he has messaged us on FB to say he'll be joining us on Saturday. It will be Steve's first Meet and Greet, and for the benefit of all our Pilgrims who are joining us for the first time, this is how we roll! So, the way it normally works (if there is any such thing as normal).... We'll meet at CDH at 10 o'clock, and decide which dogs we're going to take. We can't plan ahead, as you know, things change by the day, sometimes by the hour, and if we pre-plan which dogs we're going to take we might find that they have been rehomed by the weekend. It's about a 40 minute walk to M&S, (thank you Babs)! so we want the dogs and walkers setting off by about 10.30 for base camp at M&S. The table will already be set up, we take blankies, toys, treats, water bowls, the rehoming book, and collection butckets - all that will already be there. The event goes on till 4 o'clock, but realistically we'll need to be on our way back with the dogs by 3.30. The staff will give us some leeway and won't insist everyone is back at base for 4 o'clock, but we can't stretch it much later. During the day, we rely on the dogs to let us know if/when they have had enough. Sometimes a dog will be more than content to lie on his/her blankie and lap up the attention for hours on end, sometimes after an hour or so a dog will be getting bored, we really depend on the walker to keep an eye on his/her dog, and make sure they are content, and to decide when it's time to head back to the Home. If the walker decides they'd like to 'do a swap' and head on back to base camp with another dog all the better - but obviously no-one has to do the whole day, and sometimes vols will just come for an hour in the afternoon. The more the merrier! So if anyone want to join in, but can't come early doors, don't worry, just sign out your dog as usual, write in the walkers register (comments section) that you are taking the dog to M&S, and just turn up when you can!

Mum and I would love to come on Saturday. See you then x Thank you soooooo much I think we've got a few newbies coming along, so it'll be great to have some experienced meeters and greeters with us too! Any idea who you'd like to bring? Assuming they haven't been rehomed lol!
