Please welcome our newbie in Kennel 39, the verrrrrry handsome Rascal Rascal was signed over the the Home as he was living in a flat, and the accommodation wasn't really suitable for him. He was a little subdued and worried when we first brought him out for his pics today... But after a much needed toilet break, Rascal was more than happy to make friends with us in the vet room! How d'you do Miss Susie! Now, it's true I don't speak 'dog' as such, but we were determined to find Rascals inner puppy, and there is a universal dog posture that say 'Hey! Wanna play? Nothing ventured, nothing gained! And it didn't take Rascal long to know that we meant business! Back atcha Aunty Sooz! Let the games commence! Gwan gwan gwan, gizz a kiss! You know you want to! Although Rascal is a big boy, and without a doubt he could have bowled me over in an instant, he measures his play so carefully! No Bagladys were harmed in this play session He loves toys too! Rascal won't be able to come out for walks until 12th February, as he didn't have any vaccine protection when he arrived, but the staff will take applications on him immediately, and potential rehomers are welcome to meet him in the vet room. We're told he's good with other dogs, and has lived with a cat. He is used to having company pretty much the whole day long, and we've got everything crossed he won't be waiting long to meet his perfect forever family! Rascal is available for rehoming from 12th February, and if you would like more information, or would like to meet him, please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. I'm surprised Rascal hasn't had any walker write ups yet! So although I forgot my phone to take a few photos I thought I'd better put fingers to keypad.
Rascal came out of CDH full of life with his tail going and one very big smile on his face. Off we went down the lane only for Rascal to stop within 15 meters of the gate to relieve himself for what seemed like forever - at a guess toilet trained (I had time for a nice chat with another vol!). He didn't bat an eyelid at any dog he passed as he walked gentle up the lane, across Penarth Road (crossed like a pro) to the trading estate. As it's a weekday the estate was busier than usual but he took it all in his stride. First as we passed the burger van admiring comments from both members of staff and a big smile off Rascal for them both. We encountered a forklift truck with three men very keen to say hello and Rascal obliged with a friendly hello and a great sit even though you could tell he was eager to play what a saint. We had a quick water stop, then back through the estate meeting more admirers - he received a fuss from everyone we passed and didn't put a paw wrong. Off down Penarth Road to discover Rascal enjoys jumping on (and sometimes over) the low walls surrounding the businesses we passed but was happy to dismount when requested! He also jumped onto one of the big bolder by the Ely trail for a better view of his surroundings and a quick cwtch from me! It was great spending a very enjoyable hour with Rascal who by the way walks extremely well on lead. See you on the weekend Rascal if you're not snapped up quickly as you're a star. Bx

I walked Rascal the other week and what a beauty he was! He lovingly greeted me as soon as I took the lead and was an absolutely diamond on our walk! He loved a good run and was absolutely fine on the lead. Not only gorgeous but very friendly and loving! And he loves a good chin rub!

I've walked Rascal twice now and OMG he is gorgeous and a dream to walk. He is not bothered at all about other dogs and he is so friendly and so gentle taking treats. If you do have a little jog just be aware that he does enjoy this and would like to go at a pace but will easily slow down when you tell him lol! All in all Rascal is a fabulous dog and whoever is lucky enough to give him his forever home will be indeed blessed with a gorgeous dog. If only I could retire lol ! </img>

Hi guys it's Rascal here!....just thought I would drop you a line to let you know how I am getting on in my forever home. Well I'm not called Rascal for nothing hee hee.....My human didn't realise how agile I am, and boy it was sooo easy for me to jump on the worktop and help myself to some bird fat balls, a pack of fruit shortbread biscuits, some malteesers, and two pieces of bread which my human had taken out of the freezer ready to have for her lunch (but I got it first ha ha!) My tummy was a bit jippy after though!....so the following day I thought she can't be giving me enough food, it was easy enough to help myself although I quite couldn't get the bag on the floor, but tipped it so enough fell on the floor....sooo good! As the bag was lighter the next day I took it into the living room to help myself.... so much more comfy!! My human is so good she even made me some toast - at least I thought it was for me, she took so long I just helped myself and took it out of the top of the toaster...it was nice and warm, but a bit dry, so I needed a drink after it. My human said I was naughty so I think it was her breakfast and not for me after all...oh dear. I love to follow my human around and like to snuggle under the quilt with her too, although I have a lovely big soft bed of my own, which I am now trying out...its very nice but I do like to snuggle up with her when I can. I've had lots of toys...some don't seem to last long because they are just sooo easy to chew but I looove my filled bones that my human buys me. I had such fun in the pet shop...I helped myself to a really good ball made from rope but my human said at £24.99 it was a bit too expensive and I had to put it back...the smells of all the treats and bones was devine and as I was such a good boy having my harness fitted and playing nicely with a little pup, my human bought me some treats and a couple more toys. I've met lots of new friends and have lots of lovely walks too. My favourite place is snoozing on the settee with my human. She said that she is not very good at this computer thingy but will try and add some pics of me. Anyway peeps, I have to go now I need a long snooze after all this! Will pop some more updates on soon. Big slobbery kisses and cwtches to all my friends at the dogs home, miss you guys loads and you were all fantastic to me. Lots of Love, Rascal xx

Hi guys, Rascal here! Apologies for the delay, but I have been very busy and my human Nettie is rubbish on the Internet thingy ha ha! Let me firstly tell you how clever I am...as I didn't want Nettie to go to work, she would give me some treats in the room while she tried to get out of the door, but I'm as quick as a flash and could eat the treats and still get to the door before Nettie, so she borrowed a cage from the dogs home and she put some lovely blankets in it with one draped over the top so it's like a Den...all cosy. Nettie would put my treats in the cage and I would go in to eat them and Nettie would lock the cage - but guess what? I can get out!!...Nettie hasn't worked out how I can get out yet, and tells me she is going to try and set up a camera......that I got to see..she can barely use the computer tee hee!!. When Nettie's daughter Jo pop's in to see me about 45 minutes after Nettie has left, I'm always out of my cage ready to greet her with big slobbery kisses. Nettie says I'm getting better when she goes to work, as I know she won't be long, and I have Jo to pop in and say hello. Nettie thought I was super duper clever and could open my treat tin because the one day she was on the phone, and I came in to the room with a Dentistik.....I didn't let on that I had found it under my blanket in my cage...I had put it there for safe keeping. Nettie put my treat tin high up on top of the wall cupboards just in case as she knows how high I can jump. On Saturday I went out for a walk and had loads of fun with my friend Keeva and her human, Terry. We were out for 4 hours! Nettie thought I would be tired when I got back, but I had other ideas, and tried to help with the gardening. As Nettie was cutting down some dead plants that looked like canes, I thought I could help and starting tugging at some too- although they were new growth! I then decided it was much more fun to take the canes out of the bag that Nettie was putting them in, and spread them around the garden until I got bored of that game so I grabbed the bag, ran around the garden a few times, and when Nettie didn't chase me, I ripped up the bag!! I was truly worn out by the evening though and had a lovely snooze on the settee, next to Nettie. I think she forgave me for ripping up her green garden bag....I gave her my special doe eye look....gets her every time ha ha!. I just loooove that ball throwing contraption...the ball goes miles, and I run like to wind to get it......if I get tired and need a breather, I won't give the ball back to nettie, well not until I get my breath back and ready for another run. My other human best friend Philly takes me up the Garth for a really long walks on his days off, but I'm afraid I just love rolling in the fox poo....so he has to wash me before taking me back home - otherwise Nettie may tell Philly off ha ha! I may be going to the 3 counties show in Malvern on Sunday, to meet up with Nettie's sister (I love going out in the car), so if I do, I will let you know how I get on. Must go now peeps as I'm shattered after my run up the Garth, and I'm in need of a cwtch on the settee with Nettie. Miss all you guys...sending big slobbery kisses
