Please whisper a gentle welcome to puppy Tia
Tia is very probably a Christmas Puppy. She is four months old according to her microchip. Ahhhh, can you just imagine how cute and tiny she was on Christmas Day!
But clearly the novelty wore off, apparently she was given away this morning, and not long afterwards someone reported to the police that they had found her in their garden.
And she was brought into the Home, after being passed from pillar to post, she is now an unwanted, abandoned puppy, at the tender age of four months. It's little wonder she is a little confused and unsettled.
Tia was very anxious and nervous when we first brought her out for her pictures. As soon as she saw us she cowered and urinated. Heaven only knows what she thought we were going to do to her
For a little while, she was completely oblivious to our presence, she dashed rather chaotically around the vet room, so we let her do her own thing.... Tia didn't respond to any verbal commands. Well, requests not commands - we don't bully our dogs She didn't even seem to know 'sit'. Well, there's no time like the present to start learning some basic doggy manners!
Let's get some focus here Tia!
Teaching a dog to 'sit' is easy peasy... No need for 'gentle pressure' on their hind quarters - that is soooooo old school eh Tia?
It's so easy to train when a dog is so willing to work for treats!
By golly she's got it!
Tia is still very young, and without a doubt she has some growing to do! So if size matters, please consider an older dog which has finished growing! It seems she has missed out on her early learning too, so if you want to take on a young pup like Tia, please be prepared to put in some serious work for the first 6 to 9 months. Tia is young, clever, and very willing to please, so it shouldn't be difficult, but you will need the time and patience to help her become the fabulous young adult dog she is destined to be.
Tia will be available for rehoming from 5th March, and if you would like more information, or would like to meet her, please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm.
