Poor Taya has quite a sad story to tell. Someone bought some land, intending to build upon it, but permission was denied. At a loss what to do, they thought it would be a good idea to get some sheep. When the deal was being arranged, the farmer offered to throw in a collie to work the sheep. Taya is obviously not a pure collie. Our best guess is labrador x collie. She had no idea what to do with the sheep and found herself with an owner who had never kept a dog before. Since October/November Taya has been spending most of her time locked in a shed, on the field, where neighbours complained about her. Although she has a beautiful, shiny coat, and seems in generally good condition, this girl has gained quite a few extra pounds in weight and she definitely needs to go to Weightwatchers . Taya is only about two years old. She is a girl who is full of love and affection for people, and only needs an opportunity to show it. Good with other large dogs, Taya doesn’t seem to know how to react around small ones and needs some help to get used to them. She may not be suitable for a home with a resident cat. If you are interested in finding out more about Taya, please contact NEWPORT CITY DOGS HOME for more information. TEL 01633 290 902 between 11am - 1pm or 2pm - 4pm, on weekdays. 11am - 1pm or 2pm - 3.30pm Saturday. Please note: the home is CLOSED on Sundays. Rehoming fees are from £100 - £200 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment, and microchip. It is a condition of the rehoming contract that all dogs are neutered/spayed aged six months. Subsidised vouchers are available at £35, this is in addition to the rehoming fee.

Took her for a walk today with our 8yr old son and friends daughter aged 7. Lovely friendly dog. Nice temperament. Bit strong on the lead at first probably more to do with her diet and the smell of empty Greggs pastie bags. If it wasn't for our grumpy cat, would've taken her in a heart beat.

Taya is definitely a heart melter.
We had her at home for the weekend but because she wasn't feeling so well we couldn't do the intended scent work so we looked to entertain her in other ways.
Taya seems very house trained considering i don't think she's spent too much time inside. This was definitely her first time up stairs. Nervous at first she soon got the hang of them and was running up and down quickly.
We took her for a walk through sheep and with chickens both of which she happily ignored.
Around the garden she was just as happy chilling in the shade as she was chasing a rope toy around or looking for treats in a treat game.
Can't wait to spend some more time with this gorgeous young lady soon.
I took loads of photos of her adventures but i cant work out how to add them to this post from my phone.

We were so pleased to hear that Tayah got on well with you guys at the weekend especially the bit about the chickens! 🐓🐓 We're keeping everything crossed that she's successful in being able to do scent work with you. Would be an amazing life for her! Adding photos from a phone is a bit tricky - something I find a bit awkward too. If you'd like to post them to our Facebook page wall or Tweeting them to us, I don't mind copying them over to here to share Tayah's adventures with everyone. Keeping fingers crossed for you guys! Delighted to be able to share some photos from the weekend that Tayah spent with tayafanChickens? Nah... not unless it's a chicken dinner thanks! Nice little stroll along the canal It's lovely to be out in the fresh air, feel the grass beneath my paws It's hard work being this gorgeous don't you know! What's on the telly tonight? Not Ant & Dec I hope! We were so pleased that Tayah had a successful visit with you guys and we're hoping that she is able to visit again soon to check out her ability to complete scent work test!

Well, we picked up Tayah this morning Having been home with us on 2 occasions already, and after having a good sniff around the garden to make sure we hadn't had any other dogs here, she quickly settled in and found her favourite toy. I think she knows she's here to stay this time as she's super excited. We will endeavor to keep in contact and keep you all updated on the progress she makes as a search and rescue dog and will post some photos up here when we get a chance. Thank you for the send off this morning.

So lovely to hear that Tayah has gone home, at last. Updates would be great and I, for one, would love to see pictures of her as a slim, and fit, young dog. ❤️

Hi Guys. Well it's been a month so I just thought I'd let you guys know we're having so much fun.
I'm getting lots of exercise and my waist line is showing it. I'm looking more like a collie each day.
A couple of times a week I go to doggy daycare whilst mums at work and I've made loads of new friends. I'm the oldest one there most days but I'm learning loads from all the puppies.
On top of that I'm learning good human mannors too, how to walk nicely on a lead and sit and wait at gates, give a paw and not beg for food.
Well best go as the hills are calling. I'll post some photos when I can.
Taya
