Please whisper a gentle welcome to newbie Chip
This darling young staffie boy had only just arrived when we met him. It can be an incredibly stressful and worrying time for incoming dogs when they arrive at the home, and sometimes we leave them settle for a day or two before bringing them out for their photo's. We walked past Chip's kennel to say 'hi' and he threw himself into the kennel door, begging to come out for some human comfort. No sooner said than done Mr Chip!
We took Chip into the vet room, to see what tickled his tummy. It wasn't toys...
And he's not a footie fan....
Chip simply wanted reassuring cuddles.
Waggy tails don't necessarily mean a dog is 'happy'. Chip was very anxious, he is a very affectionate boy, and all he wanted was to be close, to feel safe...
Don't worry sweetie, nothing bad will happen to you here!
We didn't put Chip 'through his paces', just let him do his own thing, and it wasn't difficult to work out that all he wanted was reassurance....
Once he felt a little more comfortable around us, we took Chip down to the riverbank for a bit of fresh air...
He stared quietly across the river, we simply can't imagine what he's thinking...
The different sights, sounds and smells must be pretty overwhelming for our newbies. Chip spent an age interrogating his surroundings with his nose, looking for familiar scents...
Chip clearly didn't find what he was looking for, and seemed to getting more unsettled, and as it was nearly time for his supper it was back to the vet room for Chip.
Despite his anxiety, the fresh air had obviously stirred Chip's appetite.
I think I could manage a little bit of BURNS Aunty Sooz!
This isn't just any council dogs home Chip! You get starters first! Fancy a bit of Pate?
Pate? Wowsers! I could get used to this!
If Chip's owners don't come forward for him, he will be available for rehoming from 20th April.
