Please welcome Gem Gem was brought into the Home with her bestie Ruby. Gem isn't anxious, but she does seem a little despondent at her change of circumstances. We're not sure what sort of diet Gem and Ruby are used to, but we're pretty sure portion control didn't come into it Gem is quite obese. She does have a darling little otter face though It's possible Gem and Ruby are related, could be sisters, could be mother and daughter, it's impossible to say. The staff will be looking to rehome them separately, but once they are on the walkers list they might enjoy stepping out together, so Pilgrims - if you visit the home with a friend or partner, be sure to ask if the girls can come out together. Gem will be seeing the vet first thing on Monday morning, and will be on the walkers list from Friday. Back in the vet room, Gem wasn't interested in toys, treats or anything really. She was more than happy to stay close to Aunty Cheryl, but she seems to be taking a little while longer than Ruby to settle. If Gem's owner doesn't come forward to claim her, she will be available for rehoming from 29th April. If you would like more information, or would like to meet Gem, please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. For more information about the rehoming process at Cardiff Dogs Home, please click here

Gem and her best friend Ruby have been reclaimed by their owner. It was such a joyous reunion, we've never seen waggier tails! Apparently their owners left them in the care of an acquaintance when they went on holiday, and were absolutely distraught to discover Ruby and Gem had escaped. All's well that ends well though The staff have had a little word with the owner about their weight issues, and given them some advice on how to keep Gem and Ruby in tip top condition.

Gem and Ruby are back at the Home. They were found straying on the weekend again, and although their owner is aware that the girls are back in kennels, for reasons we simply cannot fathom no-one has come for them If their owner doesn't come to take them back home Gem and Ruby will be looking for forever homes from 14th May. Gem (the smaller of the two) is Ruby's mamma, and we believe she is about 4 years old. The staff will be rehoming the girls separately.

We were lucky enough to bring Ginnie (previously Gem) home with us last week and we couldn't be happier. She was very sleepy at first and seemed a little shut down but has started showing little flickers of excitement as time goes by. The kids are determined to teach her to play but she is currently unaware of what toys are for, she is extremely loving towards everyone and has settled in well. Thank you for all your help with adopting her Still trying to work out how to add pics on here but here's a link to a few photos x goo.gl/photos/1JRQURVLsXJGrYbb8

Yes my child fell asleep cuddling the dog!! 4 months in and it's safe to say she has made herself well and truly comfortable, her relationship with the children is awe inspiring- everyday she washes them when they come from school and every night she visits their bedrooms before settling down in ours. She travels from somerset to Kent regularly with us and has no problems travelling and visiting family. She had no basic training when we adopted her not even sit, now she knows sit, lay, paw, roll over, wait, stay, leave, take and touch- even better than training we now play this is where take and touch came in especially handy as we still don't fetch!

6 months already! Although it feels like Ginnie has been here forever (in a good way) it is amazing to think how far she has come from the dog we picked up.She has walked beaches and woods, she has learnt so much, she has shown us nothing but love and patience from the the first day she arrived. We recently introduced Harvey to the household, Ginnie can be anxious around other dogs so none of us expected her to be so welcoming to a new dog in the house but she was. As I type they are rolling around the floor growling and mouthing which makes me so happy as we believed she had forgotten how to play completely- we have tried with other dogs but she has never been interested. After losing our previous dogs in quick succession we were struggling with an empty house and a hole in our lives when we found her, she was and is exactly what we needed and I can not thank CDH enough.
