Please whisper a gentle welcome to Yasmine This darling girl was brought into the Home by a member of the public who said they found her straying. She is microchipped, but the staff have been unable to contact her owner. Truth be told we're not sorry. She is in a dreadful condition. Her microchip name is 'Ultimate Warrior' which says nothing about Yasmine's sweet temperament, but maybe says a lot about the sort of home she has come from Yasmine has clearly been used to churn out puppies, and with no regard for her own welfare and wellbeing. When we brought her out for her photo's she was frightened, timid, and she seemed resigned to her fate, whatever she thought that might be. She did perk up a little bit when she started to realise she is now in safe, loving hands, and that nothing bad was going to happen to her ever again.... But when we let Yasmine do her own thing, she just seemed to want to find a way out... oo er..... Yasmine clearly isn't daft - she knows how these things work! And as she made it clear she didn't want to hang around in the vet room, we decided to take her into the garden to see if we could help her find her inner puppy! Yasmine seemed overwhelmed to be free to do her own thing outdoors! She came back to check that we were still there, she couldn't seem to believe her luck and in no time at all we saw her tail up and wagging happily! Yasmine will get a thorough check over from the vets, and should be hitting the walkers list soon! We're looking forward to seeing Yasmine blossom over the coming days and weeks. If you'd like to meet her please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. Oh, poor sweet Yasmine ABDs always have such expressive faces and when they've been through a difficult time, one look can just break your heart. While we might never know exactly what has happened to this poor sweetheart - though you can probably take a guess from the state she was in when she came to the Home - whatever it was certainly hasn't deterred her from being the most sweet, gentle, and affectionate little girl. She's an excellent walker and, even though it's only understandable for dogs to pull when they're first out of their kennels, Yasmine walked at our sides from the get-go, only pulling a little when she spotted another dog she wanted to say hello to. The rest of the time Yasmine was only too happy to keep pace with us, at our sides or just slightly ahead, looking back every so often to make sure we were still with her. She didn't show a lot of interest in tennis balls or sticks but, with time and patience, I'm very certain Yas could find her inner puppy and be only too happy to play with her future forever family. We came across a few dogs and while Yasmine did seem quite eager to go and say hello, there was zero aggression and she was very easy to move away and not even too strong. I'm not sure how much interaction she's had with other dogs in the past but I imagine the staff will have a better idea of how well she gets along with them now. At the benches she had a good old cuddle in with us both and had a little explore on top of the benches. Her ears and tail look a little sore so we tried to avoid touching them just in case, but she was very happy to have a good old back scratch. Yasmine took her treats gentle as a lamb and showed off some excellent paw and sit skills in exchange. She had a little fright when we walked under the bridge in Grangemoor Park and a train went across, and though she did calm down after some cuddles and a rest at the benches, she kept staring up at the bridge as though trying to figure out what lived on top! Yasmine is going to thrive in the right home and with the right family. A little patience, some TLC, and a lot of love are going to go a long way with this beautiful girl - you'll never want for another cwtch with this sweet lady in your life!

I've been a little delayed in my write-ups for sweet Yasmine, so I'm combining our walks from Tuesday and Thursday together here. I just can't resist taking this gorgeous sweetheart out. She's so relaxing to be with and such a brilliant walker. From the get-go Yasmine is only too happy to walk at your side and stay near, with little to no pulling and always slack on the lead. The more we take Yasmine out, the more I think she's a little uncertain or wary of other dogs but definitely not aggressive. Even if the other dog is very vocal towards her, Yasmine doesn't make a peep! With some dogs she shows a little or no interest but with others she's much more keen to go over to them. There's never any sign of aggression either way, but once or twice I spied her tail tucking under. I imagine either Yasmine has had some not so nice experiences with other dogs or, perhaps more likely, she's not been socialised properly with them and she doesn't quite know how to behave or react. She's a clever girl, though, and gentle as a lamb, so I've no doubt that with some proper socialisation and reassurance she'll be much more confident around other dogs. Yasmine really is the sweetest girl there is! She loves people - there's always a waggy tail waiting for whoever crosses her path - and is so very soft in every way. She takes her treats very gently and is always only too happy to sit and give paw in return. Her poor skin seems to still be quite sore in places and very itchy in others, and she becomes absolute putty in your hands if you give her a good old back scratch! On Thursday we wandered up Grangemoor hill and Yasmine seemed to enjoy having a good old sniff of all the new smells, and of course had a good old cuddle or two on the benches before we headed back down. She's a little nervous around loud sudden noises, mostly trains or lorries, but that's pretty understandable! Yasmine needs and deserves safety, stability, and all the love in the world - fingers crossed her future forever family can offer her that, and sooner rather than later!

I popped down to the Home on Saturday for my first official time solo walking. I've done a couple of meet & greets but there were always other people around, so I thought taking Yasmine out first would be a good start! She's still a little timid at times but Yasmine is growing in confidence (and happiness) each time I see her. She happily spent the majority of our walk trotting just at my side, only really putting any weight on the lead when we were headed back or when she spotted another dog. I think a part of her really wants to go and say hello to other dogs, while another part wants to check them out and make sure their okay. Whatever her feelings towards other dogs though, I've never seen a hint of aggression in her. Zero vocalisation and, with a little encouragement, she's quite easy to move along. All Yasmine really wants is cuddles (and some back scratches, as her skin is still quite itchy). As it was so warm out (and guess who forgot her suncream ) we didn't walk too far and rested under some trees for water both ways. Yas discovered very quickly where the treats were hiding and we had a little game of hide and seek as she kept trying to shuffle around to where I'd moved the bag each time To her credit she sat each time I said her name, ready to take her treat as a reward, but I was just a little too slow for her liking so she'd try to root out the treats again herself. While she might need a little work on her patience, each treat was taken incredibly softly and she never tried to snatch any from my fingers. This beautiful girl wants nothing more than to be close to people, and to have the love-filled family life she's so far probably been denied. I'll miss her so much once she's been rehomed but, for her sake, I really hope her forever family find her soon!

I know I'm not the only one who loves this beautiful girl - she is top of the list for lots of the walkers but even though Yasmine is such a pleasure to walk, I always feel that she is not completely happy, like something is 'missing'.
Yesterday we walked for a while then I turned back to CDH and took her into the garden, door locked, lead off and ..........
WOW!! Yasmine just totally came to life!! It was fantastic - she ran around full of joy, jumped in the paddling pool, chased after a ball, played with a squeaky toy - tossing it about and running after it, then every now and again she would run into the summer house and fling herself on the sofa ready for cuddles and tummy rub. It was absolutely wonderful to see her so happy.
This is the Yasmine everyone should see! Just made my day

Hi sian thank you for your kind wishes about Chico...he was my shadow and never left my side (even when I went to the bathroom) he'd be there..you can see from our walks that he'd started getting ill
We took him to vets several times.in march they tested his liver kidneys diabetes etc but nothing..his water intake was shocking almost 6 litters a day..back to vets ultrasound scans bloods etc but nothing..then tests for cushions and results were boarder line so another test for cushions come back positive..so after a few months and hundreds of pounds later we finally had a cause and could start treatment with (vetoryl)..but turns out he had a tumour in his brain and started to shut himself down he was almost in a coma so we had to do what was best for him and not be selfish..the vet said he would have zero quality of life and suffer until he'd passed..so we held him close looking into his eyes until he took his last breath and said our goodbyes π..but like I said we can't be sad when there's dogs just like him crying out for ..so as long as Yasmin likes us we'll take her with all of her faults if she has any..and no matter what she'd done we'd never ever take her back to kennels she'd be treated like a queen for the rest of her life..
