Please whisper a very gentle welcome to this sweet young lurcher boy.... Our very latest incomer has suffered multiple injuries, probably as a result of a road traffic accident. This poor boy has a broken scapula, and possibly other damage to the soft young bones in his legs and toes, and his hind paw has been completely degloved. If you don't know what 'degloved' means, please don't google it - the images are extremely distressing. His wound is being dressed under sedation every 2-3 days, and he will be staying at Summerhills as an in-patient for a while. There is concern he may lose his leg, but he is receiving the very best of care, and we're just thankful he actually survived as the trauma was pretty catastrophic. We know nothing about his history, who he belonged to, where he came from... At the moment he is known only as 'Dog Male 6.17' He needs a name - suggestions please As he has to be sedated every 2-3 days to have his wounds dressed, we have asked Summerhill Vets to keep him as an in-patient for a while, and obviously he won't be able to meet potential rehomers until he is feeling much better. The staff may consider taking applications though. If you are interested in offering him a loving forever home you can certainly pop in to see the staff for a chat. They will require a vet reference, pictures of your garden and if you are living in rented accommodation you will also need to take a letter from your Landlord stating that you have permission to keep a dog in your property. Applications won't be taken in the first instance without these, so get ahead of the game if you'd like to meet him, and come armed with your documents. We will be keeping in close touch with his vets and will keep this post updated with news.

Hi Glayne, Finn is doing well. He left the vets on Monday and is with one of our volunteers for 2 weeks on respite. He will be at Newport City Dogs Home this coming Saturday, 8th July, for potential rehomers to meet him so if you'd like to pop down between 11am & 3pm you'll be welcome. As part of the application process, vet reference, landlord permission (where applicable) and garden photos are required so you might like to get those organised to bring with you. Hope to see you Saturday! Hello We would be interested in seeing if the beautiful Boy would like to live with us. Can we know when you are taking applications please? Thanks Glayne

Our gorgeous young lurcher pup has been named 'Finn' Thank you for all your lovely suggestions on our Facebook page Finn spent well over a week at the vets, but is now recovering in the tender care of one of our lovely Pilgrims, Kirsty. Kirsty says ' Finn loves a fuss but isn't too sure about you sitting next to him yet - he politely gets up and sits somewhere else lol! He's very loving and likes to give kisses - not too fussed on toys at the mo but think that may change when he is fully better'. Although Finn will be staying with Kirsty for another week, we would love to have a forever home waiting for him as soon as the vets declare him fit, so Finn is having an 'at home' day on SATURDAY, 8th July. If you'd like to meet him do pop along to NEWPORT CITY DOGS HOME between 11am and 3pm.

Finn is doing great! He does have a fabulous rehoming offer, and although he is still having his paw dressed every few days, we're hoping the staff will be happy for him to leave our care by the early part of next week.
He will need to continue to have regular visits to the vets for a little while longer, but he is mobile and loving life at the moment! x

He did He's settled in brilliantly. His new mamma is still taking him to the vets as his wound isn't fully healed, but he has all four paws firmly under the table now!
