Please welcome Dogue de Bordeaux Stella Stella is just 3 years old, and has been signed over to the home by her owner. Her eyes appear very sore, and her nose is a little dry, but hopefully a little tlc and some appropriate meds from the vet will sort her out in no time. As Stella isn't vaccinated, she isn't on the walkers list yet, and we couldn't take her into the garden, but she seemed to enjoy having a sniff and a scratch around the riverbank area... Stella is a chunky monkey, and although it's a bit soon to say, we rather think that she may not be used to being walked on lead. When we brought her out for her profile pics she pretty much decided which way she wanted to go, and there was no point in trying to stop her! *phew* Stella simply wanted to sniff the flowers! As Stella (and Sadie) have been signed over, the staff should have more information about their previous homelife, so if you'd like to know more please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm For more information about the rehoming process at Cardiff Dogs Home, please click here

We took Stella and Sadie out for a very quick walk on Thursday. I can't resist a squishy dog face but the staff asked us not to take them for long as one of them (I forgot to ask which) didn't have a very good day in the heat on Sunday and they wanted to make sure it didn't happen again. The girls came out full force to meet us and wasted no time in heading off down the lane together. They never seemed to stray too far from one another but weren't permanently glued to each other's sides either. They may need a bit of lead training, Stella especially as she seemed to be a fair bit stronger than Sadie, though not because they were unruly or difficult, just to stop them extending any walker's arms too far Sadie had recently been spayed so we sat under the bridge on the estate rather than on the grass and had a little photoshoot and water time. Both girls were very thirsty from their eager trek down the lane, so please make sure you take plenty of water with you when you take these lovely ladies out, especially on a sunny day! Stella was a little more dominant that Sadie, for lack of a better word, and wanted all the water to herself when it was put down, so we made sure both girls got their share by moving them slightly apart. Though they're probably about the same age, Stella seems a little more like the slightly bossy but very loving older sister We tried them with a few treats (low fat, ahem) and both girls were incredibly gentle and mostly patient, sitting for us after a few requests and being very careful not to nibble any fingers in the process. Sadie was the slightly more sedate of the two, not to say that Stella was exactly bouncing off the walls - they just have their own version of a very gentle, sweet, and loving personality. We were even treated to a few brief cwtches before the girls decided it was time to head back. These gorgeous ladies are going through quite a confusing time but haven't let it affect their beautiful temperaments. With a little training and a lot of TLC (especially for poor Stella and her sore looking eyes), these girls will definitely make a wonderful addition to their future forever homes! You can't resist those gorgeous wrinkly faces
