Oooh staffie fans - you're in for a treat! Meet Coco.... We only met Coco very briefly today, time enough for tummy tickles... We *think* he likes it! ....and a quick spin around the garden! This fabulous fella is going to be a hit with our walkers - he's a proper little piggy staffie with a smile a mile wide! If you'd like to meet him please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. We walked Coco (aka Mr Slobberchops) today for the first time. He was quite excited when he came out of kennels but it was 11am and it was his first walk. He soon settled down into a lovely walk, not at all bothered by other dogs or passing joggers etc. We stopped for Coco to have a drink and he was very thirsty so take plenty of water with you if you are walking him. He took some treats nicely and did a lovely "sit". Then he jumped up on the bench between us and proceeded to lick us all over!! (Hence our new nickname for him, Mr Slobberchops). He also loved a good scratch... He was a really happy little staffie and wagged his tail the whole time we were out. Poor Coco really didn't want to go back into his kennel, it took the staff about 10 minutes to persuade him to go back in, bless him. Let's hope that he finds a new home soon, I can just see him curled up on someone's sofa, licking them to death lol!!

Oooh Coco, you really are very fabulous. It's been a while since I've had walkies with a staffie where you can 'feel' the staffie snorts rumbling through the lead Coco was excited to be outside but was definitely easy enough to control and settled down very nicely after a few minutes of proper investigation. He seemed a little unsure of which direction to go and wandered back and forth, so I'm not sure if he was just overwhelmed by all the new sights and smells or if he's unfamiliar with lead-walking. He trundled along happy as a clam whichever way we picked for him, tail going like a metronome and little ears bobbing up and down. We passed quite a few other dogs with only a little passing interest from Coco - he was far more eager to keep exploring! At one point we came across two other walkers, their dogs, and a rather terrified little rabbit who, when I tried to move him away from a very popular path for dogs, ran straight past Coco and towards Floyd! Luckily the rabbit came to its senses and bounced off into the bushes, but Coco barely even seemed to notice! At the benches Coco was all about the kisses and cuddles, though he can be a bit mouthy when he's excited so do watch your hands, walkers! Not that he did any damage but it's best not to encourage it, even if it's mostly harmless right now. A quick no and he settled back down into non-nibbly mister cuddle monster. Coco will sit with barely any persuasion, vocal or treat! He's only too happy to show off his sitting skills for you. Despite his earlier mouthiness, Coco took his treats with the utmost care and I didn't feel a single tooth or nibble on my fingers. He's young and excitable but he's very eager to learn! Back at the Home we took Coco into the garden as requested, as staff had noticed he hadn't been toileting while on lead. We waited on the benches for the garden to free up, getting in a little extra cuddle time, and then headed in. Coco was in his element! He dashed back and forth, following us when we went into the shed to pick out some toys and then galloped ahead of us in anticipation. Of all the toys he loved the tennis ball most of all and soon nothing else could grab his attention. There was a tennis ball that needed to be popped - the rubber balls could wait! He did show off some mouthiness and jumping up, again due to his excitement, but all it took was a sharp 'no' or a 'sit' and he was back to being as good as gold. All Coco needs is a little patience and training, and of course some regular and routine playtime/walkies, and those little slip-ups in otherwise exemplary behaviour will be a thing of the past. As I tidied up his toys, Coco persuaded me to sit on the sofa with him and give him a belly rub while he continued to teach the tennis ball what for. There are some photos below but don't expect them to be in focus! Playtime over and toileting done, Coco waited happily for his turn to go back into the kennels - though it did take about 5 or so minutes for the poor staff to actually get him back in there. Coco is a very happy little staffie chap who really needs to be having tummy tickles and slobbery cwtches on a sofa of his own! I don't think he'll be waiting for long though, once the staffie lovers hear about him! (it looks like he's playing with the rubber bone but no, there's a tennis ball in there somewhere!) (there's that tennis ball) (cuddles/manic moment on the sofa)
