Ooooooh this face! Please welcome Charlie, who has been signed over to the Home along with his best friend Molly. It's possible they have been used as a breeding pair. Charlie has everything going for him now though! He has lived with children, we're told he's good with other dogs, and without a doubt he is a verrrrrry handsome boy! We don't think Charlie had seen a vet anytime prior to him coming into the home, but apart from a sore nose which should clear up with a little tlc he seems in good condition generally. If you'd like to meet Charlie pop down to the home soonest! The staff would prefer a home with large breed experience, and please don't forget to factor in the cost of insurance if you are considering adopting a full breed dog. Charlie will be neutered before he is rehomed. No more parenting duties for you big boy! Nothing but the good life from now on! If you'd like to meet him please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. For more information about the rehoming process at Cardiff Dogs Home, please click here

My partner and I walked this good boy last Sunday. Even though we only arrived at 3 PM, we were Charlie's first walkers for the day (almost all other dogs have been walked twice!). Charlie is very strong and does pull quite a bit, so he definitely needs physically strong/experienced walkers. Please lure in your strong dog-loving friends for the next induction! I surely hope Charlie's not gonna be in CDH till then but there always will be a couple of large dogs that get overlooked.* Charlie is such a gentle giant! He loves to gently boop you with his absolutely massive head (did you know Dogue de Bordeaux has the biggest head (in comparison to body size) in the canine world? ) and beg for some TLC. If I stopped petting him for a second just to snap a pic, he'd swiftly turn around and try his luck with my partner! Such a needy sweetheart. This whole "don't ever stop petting meeee " thing prevented us from getting many close up shots but I've attached what we have anyway. Don't hesitate to pet this dog, he loves it and not to mention the fur on his head is the softest thing I've ever touched! One thing to note is that he is a bit slobbery (no surprises there), so maybe don't wear your Sunday best when you take him out. Last comment would be that Charlie was very thirsty (even though it was cold and it rained for half of our walk), he tried to drink from every puddle we saw on the way and chugged about everything that was left in the bowl outside CDH when we brought him back. Dogue de Bordeaux's life span is not long at all (5-6 years for most dogs), let's make sure this lovely fella doesn't spend any more of his precious time in the kennels! *Definitely not promoting for people who don't feel strong/confident enough to take the big boys out (not that staff will let you) but if you have any suitable friends...

We took the very lovely Charlie and his bestest bud, Molly out yesterday. Charlie was an absolute dream to be around, he walked so calmly on the lead. He’s a real gentle giant. Charlie absolutely loves a fuss and a head scratch, when walking, he looks up at you, with that wrinkly face and those puppy dog eyes, just begging for attention! Charlie, you are an amazing boy.

I am a 19 year old female and I did not struggle taking Charlie for a walk. He is a gentle giant and is well behaved on a walk. He only pulled when he wanted to smell something like any other dog would. I would love to have charlie myself if I had the room for another dog. He is a beautiful companion and deserves a good home.

Hi, has Charlie found a new home yet ? is he good around other Dogs and what about off the lead in quiet places ? I'm looking for Best Friend like Charlie to join me on Walks and Fishing Trips and to possible have a new home! I'd love to come meet this chap over the weekend. My partner and I walked this good boy last Sunday. Even though we only arrived at 3 PM, we were Charlie's first walkers for the day (almost all other dogs have been walked twice!). Hi jamest! As it happens we've just walked Charlie again this afternoon. He is definitely still in the kennels, but I am not sure if he has any pending applications. A family showed interest in him this afternoon too, so I'd recommend you call CDH tomorrow morning to check what his status is. Charlie is truly a lovely boy, very gentle & affectionate. As volunteers we are not allowed to let him off lead or introduce him to other dogs, but he's lived with other dogs (and children) before, so I don't think he would have any problems regarding that. (You'd have to introduce him to your other dog(s) as part of the application process anyway, so why not give it a go?) P.S. In case Charlie's applications are full (they are capped at 3, I think?), I've just walked a lovely female Dogue de Bordeaux today too. Her name is Tia - very friendly, affectionate and she's only just arrived at the home, so you could ask about her as well! Hope that helps!

This boy! I was lucky enough to spend most of saturday with this handsome chap and his big eyes.. If you're thinking of taking home Charlie I hope you have strong legs.. This guy likes to lean against you! He is so tactile and loves to be made a fuss of and he doesn't care who gives it to him as long as he's getting it! He was absoloutley wonderful around all the strangers in the city centre who wanted to pet him, grown ups and kids alike - he's also brilliant with other pooches. For such a big magnificent dog he is so gentle and has a beautiful temperament.
