Awwww, we have a new 'snow dog' in the building
Blue is one of 8 dogs that were signed over to Cardiff Dogs Home from a nearby Dogs Home this week. Even though none of these beauts will be rehomed before Christmas, they were all very keen to get their pictures done for their rehoming profiles, so it was a bit of speed-date session this week!
Blue is just over a year old, and according to his 'chip details he is a malamute / mastiff cross. As he was born in October 2016 without a doubt he was someone's Christmas puppy this time last year. Blue would like to wish his previous owners a Merry Christmas. He will be spending his in a kennel. Homeless. Blue says 'thanks a lot guys, I hope I made you happy when I was a cute little ball of fur'.
Yup - Blue has grown into a magnificent young adolescent dog, because that's what puppies do, they grow up, into adult dogs.
Northern Breeds are not indigenous to the UK. The Malamute has a long genetic foundation of living in harsh environments, and many of its behaviours have adapted to survive in such environments. Independence, resourcefulness, high intelligence and natural behaviours are common in the breed. The staff will be looking for a breed-experienced home for Blue, as northern breeds are definitely not for the novice pet owner!
Blue is still a little confused and unsettled in his kennel, but he was happy enough to make new friends...
He wasn't overly impressed with our 'fake snow' though We had a fabulous donation this week of a pallet of snowy white vet bed, which is going to keep our dogs cosy and warm in their kennels all through the winter. Blue would rather he was running around in the real stuff, as his coat has been genetically engineered with withstand temperatures of minus 40 degrees!
If you have previously owned a northern breed and would like to meet Blue please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm.
