Please welcome Alfie This adorable cuddle monster is just 18 months old, and has been signed over as his elderly owner isn't able to give him the time and training he needs. Alfie is considerably overweight for a such a young dog, tipping the scales at over 28kgs when he arrived! Thankfully Alfie is young enough to recover from his early rather sedentary lifetyle and lack of exercise. He was rather pleased to find a few tennis balls in his Christmas stocking Alfie has met a few of our residents, and he seems to enjoy the company of other dogs, but he does seem to have an 'it's ALL about me' attitude and whether or not he would enjoy living with another resident dog is still something we're trying to work out. Alfie loves affection.... and when he sees it being shown to other dogs he has tended to try to muscle in on the action So the staff feel that Alfie may be able to live with a steady, confident dog who can help him learn how to share, and how to be more dog, less couch potato. Yeah, that's not a good look Alfie ..... That's better beaut! For more information, or if you'd like to meet Alfie please contact NEWPORT CITY DOGS HOME TEL 01633 290 902 between 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm, on weekdays, 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 3.30pm on Saturday. Please note: the home is CLOSED on Sundays. Rehoming fees are from £120 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment. It is a condition of the rehoming contract that all dogs are neutered, and subsidised vouchers are available for £35.

I went to see Alfie on Friday, Fell in love so went back Saturday he really is a handsome fella with so much love and affection to give. He loved running round the field, he was a little nervous to the different sounds that were going on around him but it was easy to make him feel safe and secure. He is a true beauty and once those few extra pounds are shed he will have the energy of the 18 month old he is. I know Alfie has had a few applications myself being one, I looked into those loving eyes and we knew as a family we would fit into his life. Who ever has the pleasure off this loyal boy will have a friend for life, if it’s us then amazing if it’s not I know the trust will pick his perfect family and he will be a happy happy chappie. Please people take a look at the dogs on these pages they need there forever homes, they want to be loved, and play ball and run in open spaces and be happy. All dogs deserve to be happy, when you a bring a dog into your world they can give you so much pleasure, joy, loving happiness and fitness and all they ask for in return is your time and your love. Thank god for places like this that take these dogs in and nurture them and look after them until there forever homes are found and it’s not like the of days you can’t just walk in and say oh yes I have that one....it’s not about the dog fitting in with you it’s about you fitting in with the dog and what he/she needs, and a wow to all the walking volunteers that I saw over the weekend to take time out of your day to make sure these dogs get a good walk is amazing. We as a family applaud you!
