Please whisper a gentle welcome to Izzy Rottie This darling older girl was brought in to Cardiff Dogs Home by a kind member of the public when she was found wandering alone We have been told that Izzy's owners know she is at the Home, but as yet, she is still waiting patiently for her owners to come to collect her. Izzy is clearly in her silver years. She is a very gentle girl, but is clearly missing her family badly, so we didn't attempt to put her through her paces when we met her, we just showed her all the kindness we could. Izzy was clearly grateful for the small comfort of gentle voices and soft hands, but she was still pretty inconsolable, an we couldn't get even a gentle tail wag from her. She just looked beseechingly at us, 'where are my humans? When are they coming for me?' Sometimes it's easy to comfort an incoming dog, if they are hungry, or cold, if they just want a cuddle, or to play, we can do that. But when all a dog wants is to be back home, if all they are asking for is their beloved family, that's the moment we shed tears for them, and pray that someone, somewhere, can help them overcome their devastating loss. When it's a young dog we know it's all doable, that someone will help them forgive and forget the only people they have ever known and loved. But when it's a devoted and loyal senior dog, we can only pray and hope that they will one day find solace on another sofa. Because no dog should be this sad... If Izzy's owners don't come to take her back home, she will be available for adoption from 9th January. If you can give Izzy the home she needs, please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. We took beautiful Izzy out this morning. At first she seemed a little bewildered but soon settled in to a lovely walk. She is brilliant on the lead and was excellent passing other dogs. What struck us was how sad she seemed. At first she was in her shell, but when we stopped at Grangemoor Park for a fuss and some treats Izzy livened up a little. She didn't go as far as wagging her stubby tail, but she did lean in for a head rub. The poor girl is also painfully thin, she is in desperate need for some tlc. Luckily the staff and pilgrims have plenty to give and hopefully over time Izzy will realise she is safe and loved. Every now and again a dog breaks our hearts, Izzy is one of them.
