Poor Alex This very sweet little fella was found wandering around on his own over a week ago, but he was in such dreadful condition he has spent a week at the vets being nursed back to health. Alex was very very frail and poorly when he was found. He has received nothing but the best of tender care at the vets, and although he is now well enough to continue his recovery at Cardiff Dogs Home, Alex is still quarantined as he has a very distressing skin condition which may be zoonotic (ie can be passed to humans). The vets have carried out skin scrapes to diagnose his condition, but until they are satisfied that he is no longer infectious Alex won't be able to come out to meet visitors. The staff will take applications on him though. Whatever ails Alex is completely treatable, and some time, tlc and the right meds will have him looking and feeling much better. If you'd like to express an interest in rehoming Alex please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. After a short 'holiday' in his forever home Alex has been returned to Cardiff Dogs Home. It seems he got more and more interested in the resident kitty as time went on No kitties were harmed, but Alex's rehomers felt that he might be better suited to a home without small furries. We really are beginning to see Alex's playful side! Yeah, can't be doing THAT to kitties Alex Alex is a stunning youngster. His skin is healing well, and he's going to look like a million dollars in no time! In true Goldilocks style Alex insists on trying out ALL the beds, even when they are clearly too small for his bambi long legs! If you can't resist a whippety and have a cat-free home come to meet him! You won't be disappointed. Alex is an absolutely sweetheart

Is there a better way to spend an hour to clear your head than to go out with Alex? No! He is sooo affectionate, good on the lead and does an amazing bambi hop now and again π I don't normally take treats out for the dogs but I had a small bag of dehydrated liver in my pocket and Alex was so gentle, then he licked my fingers just to check it had all gone! His coat is looking good and im sure he will be looking even more amazing as the days go on. Alex passed other dogs no problem, I bet he would have loved to play as he would sometimes do his little bambi hop then look at me ' Why can't I play?' Fingers crossed you will be able to soon Alex. Hello All :-) Apologies for my tardiness in giving you all an update. A little over two weeks ago we had the privilege of taking Alex home and giving him his forever sofa :-) I thought that today would be a god day, if nothing else than to let you know his skin is healing nicely and the fur is coming back fast :-) He looks sooo much better. I took him to CDH this morning to see the vet and I think a few people didn't even recognise him :-) Helped along by his medicated shampoo, and perhaps the sardines twice a week and the odd raw egg have helped too :-) Looking back at his photos from when he was first put up on the forum, the staff at CDH gave him a fantastic start to his recovery and Iβm pleased we have been able to help him heal. Oh, and this post is not just about Alex, itβs also about Millie too. We adopted Millie from Newport City Dogs home last November. ο It's hard to know exactly what Millie has made of this new interloper, but they do seem to be quite settled with each other. I think Millie would like it if Alex was a bit more playful, but she is learning to listen to him, which I think is doing her good. Though Alex can be a little bit of a tease! If we're playing with Millie, he will come in; mouth her neck or pounce to instigate play, then just as Millie gets excited, he wanders off to find a sofa!! :-) Though, they have had some great wrestles and chases together in the living room and round the garden. Alex definitely likes chasing games better than wrestling ο We took them both up the fields a couple of evenings ago and risked our first off-lead outdoor experience with Alex (All field entries were manned!!). They had a fantastic time chasing each other round :-) So, as his recall improves, there shall be plenty of off-lead zoomies to come!! Millie has most definitely made this her home. When she first arrived she would follow us around everywhere! But now, she is quite content to find somewhere comfortable to chill. Alex is fast settling in as well and is just as content curled up in the same room with us or finding a quiet spot for a snooze. Where Millie is extremely high energy and needs a lot to tire her out (think it may be the Saluki in her) Alex is your typical sighthound; happiest when he can curl up and have a sleep!! ο Both Alex and Millie love our four children. I have many photos of both of them curled up beside one or other of our children, resting their head on laps and enjoying a good stroke or just chilling beside them. Our children have come on such a long way since we adopted these two. They used to be a little nervous of meeting dogs when out and about (despite the fact we had a dog previously!) but now they love nothing better than to go and say hi, after getting the owner's permission first of course! Our youngest used to be rather nervous when there were loose dogs running around (she got bowled over a couple of times when she was younger) but she now enjoys watching them run and play. She will even choose to come and sit outside at Action Petz in the midst of all the action ο Alex slowly seems to be getting the hang of his training. When we first started, he didn't really seem to get it, but perseverance pays off. Well, all I can really say is that both dogs have certainly made themselves at home and are now a massive part of our family. We're looking forward to plenty of walks and runs as the weather improves. Plenty of places round here to explore. Alex has also discovered the joys of Action Pez in Newport and loves a good run and play with the dogs there. Safe to say, they have both won a few hearts there as well :-) So for anyone reading this who remembers Alex or Millie from their time at CDH and NCDH I hope you can see they are well loved, healthy and happy in their new home. ο For those who don't know them or are considering one of the dogs at either CDH or NCDH, please do go along and see them. They make such a wonderful addition to a family.

To be fair I think Alex has such an amazing home. He has the best of every thing and he looks fantastic after only a short while of moving in. Thank you to his new fur sister and human family..π

Hope you don't mind the random update. Can't believe it's fast coming up on a year since Millie joined our family and nearly 6 months when Alex made us a family of 8! Looking snug and comfy together after a good old zoomies round our local fields :-)
