Please welcome heartbreaker Bailey Bailey is an elderly staffie boy, around 12-13 years of age, and was unceremoniously dumped by his previous owners. They simply tied him up to a lamp post, walked away, and abandoned him to his fate. No dog deserves this, but for a bewildered senior dog it's simply unimaginable how people can be so heartless. Bailey has settled into the routine of kennel life at Newport City Dogs Home. He loves his walks. But sometimes, when it's quiet, when all the visitors have left, Bailey can be heard whimpering piteously for his owners. Staffies are the most loving and faithful family dogs. They are clever, funny and they have a built-in genetic imperative to smother their owners (or strangers) with kisses. If you've never been kissed by a staffie, you've never really been kissed! Shake on that Bailey! Bailey is still sprightly and definitely isn't ready to hang up his lead yet! But kennels is no place for this lovely fella, and the staff and volunteers have promised him that his life isn't over; that he will find someone to love with all his staffie heart once more. Bailey doesn't seem to want the company of other dogs and would prefer to be rehomed as an 'only child'. If you'd like to meet Bailey pop in to Newport City Dogs Home, or contact the staff on 01633 290902. between 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm, on weekdays, 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 3.30pm on Saturday. Please note: the home is CLOSED on Sundays. Adoption fees are from £120 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment and neutering.

I walked the gorgeous Bailey today and he definitely doesn't act like he is a senior staffie! Despite the heat, he wanted to get out and stretch those legs with me, we had a lovely walk and if it wasn't for the heat, he definitely could have walked for much longer which I thought was fab considering his age. I took one of the volunteers' children with me out on the walk and he was quite happy to give her attention as well and he wasn't phased at all by this. It was really hot and Bailey and I decided to take a little rest in the shade to cool down and he started to show his character by rolling around and wanting his tummy tickled! He is clearly missing his family as he is obviously a very loyal and affectionate dog who really deserves to have an amazing and dedicated retirement home. However, he certainly doesn't act like an OAP and he is full of cheerful and happy energy

Hi,
Would Bailey be happy to leave with another dog and a cat?
Thanks,
Luca

Hi Luca.
Bailey has been a little choosy about the company he likes to keep. As an older Staffie gent he knows what he likes and what he doesn't like. It really would be down to the chemistry between him and another dog but it's quite likely he'd prefer to spend his retirement as the only dog living in a home.

Hi,
Thank you. That’s understandable.
No problem.

Hi there,
I have a 14 year old pug cross female who is also very laid back like Bailey sounds to be. Is he still looking for a home, as we would love to come and meet him.
Kind Regards, Julie and family x

Hi Julie. Bailey is still looking for a home. He's really unhappy in kennels at the moment. Why not pop down and meet him? They are open from 11am for rehomers 🙂

I'm sorry to hear he is so unhappy, he looks like such a lovely dog. We will try and arrange to come and meet him in the next few days. Do you think it is best to meet him first on our own or bring our dog with us to meet him? And thank you for getting back to me x

Hi Julie.
Pop down and meet Bailey first and then you can arrange to pop down with your dog for intros on a day when the volunteers are there ☺️
Hope to see you soon!

I'd adopt Bailey in a heartbeat if I could... he is just the perfect dog! I've been honoured to spend a few days with him and can only praise him on every level. Settled in in no time, goes out to the toilet - no accidents even being in a new environment, no barking even when deliveries at the door, curious with other dogs and cats but no malice, loves his strolls, doesn't pull on his lead, loves playing ball and shows how sprightly he can be, welcomed human visitors to the house, loves human company but doesn't seem to mind being on his own for a few hours, slept all through the night..... the list of good points is endless .... I haven't got anything negative to write!
He really is missing his home comforts, all he wants is some cuddles, some walks, food and treats! He would make someone a lovely companion. A volunteer from the kennels popped in after 24hrs and couldn't believe the change in him, there was some hope in his eyes again she said and seeing his tail wag and show some happiness was overwhelming for her. Being in kennels is no place for this gentle soul. We desperately need to find him a forever home and soon.
I'll be sad returning this fella to the kennels but hopefully it won't be for too long....

Hi, would it be possible to get a dog of this age insured please? Would love to give this dog a home, but obviously would be slightly worried about vet fees given his age....Many thanks
