Who could resist that beautiful smile? This is Kira, a darling crossbreed girlie. Kira is as happy as the day is long, which is astounding considering the condition she was in when she arrived as a stray. She isn't chipped, and no-one has come forward to claim her. It's pretty obvious Kira hasn't had the life she deserves, so maybe that's a good thing. Kira is smaller than she appears in her pictures. She is suffering from untreated skin infections and has what looks like cigarette burns on her back. Her nails are very overgrown, and you could be forgiven for assuming Kira hasn't been out much anytime recently. But from the moment she arrived at Newport City Dogs Home Kira has made it clear she is putting her past behind her! She's the friendliest girl you could wish to meet, and she's grateful for the smallest kindness. Kira is absolutely loving the fuss and attention she's getting from the staff and volunteers at Newport City Dogs Home, and she is definitely ready to meet her public! If you'd like to meet Kira pop up to Newport City Dogs Home! TEL 01633 290 902 between 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm, on weekdays, 11am - 1pm and 2pm - 3.30pm on Saturday. Please note: the home is CLOSED on Sundays. Rehoming fees are from £120 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include 1st vaccination, flea & worm treatment and neutering.

I haven’t had the pleasure of walking Kira yet but I met her briefly on the weekend and she greeted me as if I was a long lost friend 😊 straight up to me for cuddles and kisses and her tail was wagging so fast! What a lovely and friendly girl and I don’t think she’ll be around long once she meets her public 😍 She is quite a bit smaller than she looks in her pictures so don’t be put off if you’re considering a “smaller dog” as she is very dainty 😊

Kira was my first walk today as a new volunteer at the Home. She's gorgeous; friendly as soon as you meet her, and very good on the lead. She doesn't pull even when inquisitive, she has a lovely smile, and responds when you guide her. She's a quiet little soul, as I heard barely a peep out of her during our walk together. Hope she finds a forever home soon.
On that subject, I'd urge anyone considering dog walking as a volunteer to go along. The welcome is great, so is the advice, and the dogs are lovely.

I was pleased to be able to take Kira out yesterday morning as I had briefly met her the week before and was amazed at her friendliness and affectionateness as given the history I expected her to be slightly wary of new people. She came straight out of her kennel and greeted me as if we were the best of friends and we went off on our walk. She walks really slack on the lead and is happy to be next to you and likes to make sure you are still there! We walked through the field and she went to sniff some man who asked if it was okay to stroke her and she jumped straight up to give him a kiss! What a flirt!! She was happy to have a rest and have some water and a cuddle as it was boiling hot! She is sooooo affectionate and gentle with it as well! Her tail wags so quickly!! She hasn't had the best start to her life but she is a cheerful and affectionate little lady who would make a great addition to any household As previously mentioned, she is quite a bit smaller than she seems in some pictures and is a very elegant and dainty girl. She wanted my attention when I tried to take some pictures of her and she made sure I knew about it!! Hopefully Kira won't be here for long as I can't see how anyone who meets her can fail to fall in love with her, such a beautiful dog inside and out.
