Well.... I came home during my lunch break to find cat and dog on bed... (nothing unusual about this)... Cat looking pleased with herself, dog looking guilty about something... (nothing unusual about this either...) and then I noticed that the mansize box of tissues had been shredded and evenly distributed across my bedroom, turning it into a lovely 'winter' scene.... *mutters* I soooooooo wanna see this Don't tell me you didn't get your camera out Conny - I'll be gutted

awww poor boy - it makes you wonder what they've been through in their previous lives Our re-homing experience with Freddie was indeed very mixed, full of anxiety and ultimately has resulted in an overwhelming sense of.....'how did we not notice how special he was before? '! The staff were fab when I put a reserve on him and then picked him up the next day. They even gave us a towel for the inevitable vomit fest in the car on the way home (well, he had just had his food!!). Even getting him in the car was a challenge at first. I suspect that he hadn't been in one before..or very often as he looked pretty freaked out by it and kept waving his paw to get to me in the front. It felt very odd for the first day or so and I felt very anxious. He and my already nervous dog, Daisy had walked well at the home but boy, did she have a right 'go' at him many times! When I first left them alone, I wondered if I would return to a nightmarish bloodbath! She basically corrected him for about 4 days until he learned to be more gentle in play and not to be so 'loving' towards her! Witnessing my lovley dog, Daisy getting so agressive with Freddie was hard but we knew her so very well,, that we could tell she liked him deep down (she initiated play, ate nicely next to him and was happy to walk alongside him). A rope toy helped them play without Daisy getting hurt by his over enthusiatic nibbling. They sorted their relationship, then we had to teach him some house 'rules'! He jumped our fence twice (jumped is the wrong word as he actually just kind of glided over), chewed his new bed and kept nibbling at our hands. He had crazy times when he would just run around like a loon! Now, he doesn't want to jump the fence as this is his home. He hates it if he is outside without Daisy or one of us. I have supplied many many bones to supplement his bed (and my table), which has worked. He just needed to chew something. I agree that we will never know his past experiences and have noticed how he is frightened by certain things... a raised hand or foot for example when I put boots on or when I shout at the husband or kids (I don't shout that much..honest). We love Freddie and are very grateful that we got to re-home such a great dog. He is my son's best mate and cheers us all up if we have a bad day by his funny face and loving, loyal nature. Will he ever chew anything again...probably...but then if he chews anything of value then that is just bad planning on my part!!! Freddie did the tissue chewing thing too! I didn't know where to start....so I opened a beer, picked it up and remembered not to leave tissue where he can get at it again. Lesson learned!

This is a great thread, thank you for sharing Sioned! Our household is a work in progress. Millie has been with us for a couple of months now and has settled right in but that's not before the purchase of a Vax carpet washer (who has cream carpets, i mean really!) and learning where she likes to hide our belongings (the girl is a kleptomaniac hoarder). She is still learning her manners, such as the fact that if our other dog has something in his mouth, treat or toy, that doesn't mean take it off him as he's done with it. However for all the scraps that the pair of them have had, the initial diarrhoea and the weeing on our duvet (it was a very exciting moment to be sent upstairs by my OH to wake me up) we wouldn't change a thing. It can be exasperating at times but the fact that we have this gorgeous daft pair makes us happy and always gives us reason to smile. I think owning a dog is a huge learning curve, it certainly has been for me but its a curve i'm happy to be on xx

ahhhhh, takes me back, to my fostering days........ <rolls back three years..........> I'm sad to report that a terrible assault took place recently in the sleepy village of Llandough. On returning to the living room, after an absence of not more than 5 seconds, the owner of the property, Mrs Baglady James, was met by evidence of a cruel and vicious attack..... There were three suspects, who were quickly rounded up and placed behind bars.... The owner of the book, Dr Tolerance James was asked to comment..... 'I just can't believe anyone could do this, they're all ANIMALS!' They were each questioned under caution..... all three were found to be in possession of weapons that could have been used in the attack. These were closely examined by the forensics team....... Bas The Ripper.......'Look, I know I used to have a habit, yeah, OK, it was bad, mobiles, newspapers, carpets, furniture, leads...... i couldn't 'elp myself But I been clean for months! I swear it...' Fudge (The Criminal Meistermind)You can't pin this one on me gov, it ain't my MO. I don't do books, that's smalltime.... Shawnee (the new kid on the block)Under caution, all Shawnee would say is 'No Comment'. It appears she does have some 'previous'. She has been cautioned a number of times for destroying mail. Her current carers have provided her with a good character reference.... 'She's had a tough time lately, she's been through a lot. She was recently banged up in the pound through no fault of her own - she was totally innocent. We managed to secure her release, and since she has been with us she has shown no signs whatsoever of criminal intent or behaviour. The girl deserves a chance....' Through lack of evidence and no clear motive, all 3 dogs have since been released. ;D Shawnee was the 'nortiest' little foster poopie I ever had, but she went to a brilliant forever home, and we've met for walkies with Bas & Fudgie a few times since I luffs her to bits, still, but my oh my, she was a handful!

'pparently Maisie was complaining of cat flu.... erm... yeah right... Haha, the expression on Kara's face says it all. Maisie looks like she's saying 'Nothing to do with me, I'm not anywhere near those tissues...and I have no need of tissues either - Kara's a big fibber!'.

Well, I have absolutely no sympathy for people who leave their dogs alone for hours on end, with no toys, nothing to entertain them. They're dogs, they're going to chew, right? So what happens when you're upstairs for 20 mins, dealing with emails and making telephone calls? Bodie, sleeping it off after protecting his family from the vicious sofa It got better ;D
