Did we not print some business cards for Friends recently? Do new adopters get some sort of 'welcome pack' to take home like Dogs Trust do? maybe we could put a card in there and people be told explicitly that we'd love to hear from them afterwards? That way they could use their dog's thread to get support in hard times as well as show off the good times?

I've put them in our leaflet dispenser now, so hopefully peeps will pick them up I'm sure if we design a leaflet the staff would be amenable to putting in their rehoming packs. What would we want to say on it?

yeah something that explains that "their" dog already has a thread and that volunteer walkers and other forum members would be delighted to hear how they are getting on and offer advice and support on the way where needed.

I'd just like to say that when I took Ben back to the Home after I'd taken him over to Pets at Home M&G, I had a chat with Emma from the Home. She clearly loved Ben and Ben loved her judging by the way he greeted her. She told me how on her breaks she would go into Ben's kennel and play with him; how she taught him to sit, down and rollover.
This is an example of how the staff at Cardiff Dogs Home go the extra mile....and which is why I have ultra respect for them. It's not an easy job, it goes far beyond what many people think in that amongst other things it's a rollercoaster of emotions. They have to cope with caring and getting to know dogs and letting dogs go who at the best and in the majority are rehomed (yay) and others who at the worst have to be PTS as in the case of tragic Marty this week.

12 Years ago I adopted Beryl a Staff x Whippet from CDH and I was home checked by a volunteer. I am assuming that at some point this became too difficult. Also I don't know if this would stop returns as it was mainly to check the suitability of the home not the owner. However, I think that it would make people think harder about whether or not they actually want a dog. It has taken me a few years to decide to adopt again.

I'm always amazed at how constantly busy the Home is. Just noticed that the 'Happy in their Forever Homes' thread is up to page 8 Had a count up and there are 214 dogs happy in their homes ;D And the total is a lot higher than this as Friends didn't get set up to do regular updates until the beginning of Jan. and even now we go down twice a week to do updates so we miss out on any dogs that have been rehomed really quickly and those that have been reclaimed by their owners in the first day or so (on average 5- 6 per week) The figures say that 1200+ dogs go through the Home a year, that's aprox 20 -25 a week -
