Hi everyone, We finally took the plunge and invited this little fella into our home. He's an 8 week staffy from Four Paws and we love him to bits - well, me and Fliss do. Lulie is less than impressed but she'll get there eventually. We really wanted to adopt an adult - there are so many wonderful ones at CDH - Tyson, Snowy, Snoop really got to me. But after some wonderfully helpful guidance from trainer Caroline Cowan (who is helping us with Snoop) and after a lot of thinking and reflecting on what happened last time, we decided a pup was the best way forward for all of us. I've never thought of going on the Four Paws website before. I guess I feel a loyalty to CDH. But a homeless dog is a homeless dog I guess. Someone tweeted Woody's details and it just seemed we'd found the right dog at the right time. We're following Shy Bella's progress and taking some tips from Paty and Colin. He can already do a sit and we're working on paw. The fact that he's so food obsessed helps! Here are a couple of pics:

Aww congratulations Denise and Fliss, he's lovely! I know you had your heart set on a CDH adult dog, but I think you made the right decision to go for a pup after what happened before and as you say, you've still taken in a homeless pooch so winner all round Is he called Woody then? Is he a deaf pooch like Shy? When he's ready for walkies and you fancy some company, give me a shout ;D

Oh what an incredible cutie-pie! He's utterly gorgeous! Congratulations!
I fully sympathise with your decision... I'm hoping to adopt an adult dog in the next couple of months from CDH (and in my head, it's going to be one of the "stickers"), but with a dog, cat and children already at my house I'm well aware this may not work out.. got to keep an open mind! If I can't find the right dog, though, I'm sure I'll go the same route as you with Four Paws or Hope, for a puppy.
As you say, they are all homeless, and the important thing is that your actions haven't supported the breeders and puppy farms, but supported the rescues instead, so it's all good!

Thank you so much Cheryl, Jo and Susie for wonderfully warm wishes. It has been one hell of a journey and I guess it's only the beginning. I really want Woody / Elwood (still mulling on that - the cat responds everytime we call Woody for some reason!) to be a great ambasador for homeless staffies. He's affectionate, clever and funny so that's a great start.
He's not deaf Cheryl, but I really like Paty and Colin's approach through hand signals. And I know Susie uses them with Fudge (and Bas?). So we're starting as we mean to go on. Having a visit from Caroline next Saturday so no doubt we'll have a long list of questions for her by then. Can't wait for you all to meet him.

Welcome to the forum Woody, you will have tons of friends here and no doubt lots of offers of 4 legged buddies to walk and play with when you are a little bit bigger!!
Denise and Fliss - he is an absolute stunner, we cant wait to meet him x

He's a cutie - and as Caroline said, given your circumstances, a pup was the way to go. I know that you enquired after Missy's pups first and it must be fate cos Woody could be a litter mate, they are so similar ;D ; and I'm sure Lulie will become his best big sister in no time and help show him the ropes ;D

Hi, I've moved the posts about Jen and introducing a new dog to existing cats into Dog Chat as it was threatening to take over Woody's thread ;D
