CARIAD will be holding the first ever anti puppy farming Conference 'Strategies to end puppy farming in Wales'. If you are interested in attending the info and agenda can be found on-- cariadcampaign.wordpress.com/I have just noticed that the above link does not work. I will ask angelad to sort it out. There is an error in the price of accommodation at the conference. Rooms are actually much cheaper and start at £40.75. I have booked for the Saturday night and have a single en suite for that price. Pretty good I thought.

Just like to share with you the latest Puppy Love news letter
Posted: 11 Feb 2012 07:05 AM PST
Its been a hectic start to the New Year for Puppy Love. Complaints about sick pups continue to arrive, we follow these up and advise owners what action to take and we name and shame the breeders.
We continue to work very closely with C.A.R.I.A.D the coalition group fighting against puppy farming in Wales. We are pleased to have been asked to give a talk at their forthcoming first ever conference to develop strategies to end puppy farming in Wales and we congratulate them on what they have achieved over past few months. They are truly dedicated people.
We have also investigated a couple of unlicensed dog breeders in Wales, we can’t say much about that as it is on going at the moment. We are hoping our efforts make a difference for the dogs kept by these unscrupulous breeders.
We were also pleased to see ITV Wales expose puppy dealer Huw Thomas and are proud to have been involved with the programme.
There have been darker moments too, we have been threatened with legal action by Dog Lovers Registration Company and Dogs4us pet store. We are quite prepared should action be taken, everything we state is truth and can be verified in court should the need arise. We have also started a legal fund and will work on that over coming months. As the weather gets better we will do boot sales of our members unwanted items.
On last months protest outside Dogs4us more staff were brought in to try to intimidate protesters. Dogs4us have also started their own campaign trying to link us with animal rights activists, this is blatantly untrue. Anyone who knows us will see they are grasping at straws to try to discredit us. This shows how successful our campaign has been. None of us have any kind of criminal record and our relationship with police on protests has always good, even friendly.
In light of recent events we have decided not to protest the store again, not because we are afraid but because we will not be involved in their verbal abuse, we refuse to sink to their level.
We have done our job at Dogs4us, they are struggling to survive and are in liquidation. Members of the public are now aware of the link between pet shop pups and the battery farming of puppies. You only have to visit our stories page to see evidence of sick pup bought from the store, or watch our undercover video when we worked with Jason Farrel of channel five to see the type of breeders who supply pet shops. You can find the film here .
We thank all our members who have attended protests, Jan, Chris, Sue, Sarah and others, and special thanks to Anita and her family who were the the stalwarts, it was a privilege to stand beside you all.
We continue to do our best for the dogs incarcerated in battery farms across the land and with your help we are making a difference. It may be slow but the changes are coming.
Thank you all so much for your continued support and kind words of encouragement

A poem that came with the puppy love news letter. I think it sums up puppy farming:- I let you decide :-
Pet Store Puppy ….. a poem.
Why did you buy your puppy from that grim pet superstore? Did you never stop to think about the life he’d lead before? Did you ponder on his mother who is desperate caged and cold? Who’s already borne three litters and is barely two years old.
Why did you buy your puppy from a choice of two lay-bys? Did you never see the trauma in his harrowed tortured eyes? Did you know his forlorn mother was confined in hell on earth? Whose subsistence was dependant on her gift of giving birth.
Why did you buy your puppy from some seedy car boot sale? Even though his ruthless breeder felt inclined to dock his tail. Did you never once consider that his mother never saw A glimpse of what goes on outside her sordid jailer’s door.
And when you bought your puppy from some random local ad Did you truly not suspect your breeder may be labelled bad? Was the research too much trouble, did the questions not forth come? As to why your puppy’s mother spent her life encaged by scum.
So when you lay your puppy in his tiny shallow grave Did you realise its money that these evil breeders crave. As you wiped your flowing tears did you wish you’d taken time. To ensure you bought a puppy from a well established line.
Or you could have bought a rescue from a local needy pound But instead you chose a breeder whose credentials were unsound You endorsed his shameful practise, you approved his shocking scam And you sealed the fate of torment for the Puppy Farmer’s dam.

Received some more info from CARIAD this morning, see below The KC is clearly getting nervous about the contents of Pedigree Dogs Exposed 2 which goes to air on the BBC the week before Crufts. Talk about shutting the stable door when the horse has long since bolted. Tomorrow's puppy farm protest - no license from 2006 until August 2011 - and yet in 2008 the KC were registering their pups! This announcement looks good on paper and I'm sure it will appease many so called hobby breeders, but unfortunately there are so many loopholes in this new strategy that it will do very little to stop puppy farmers (sorry 'volume breeders') from continuing to register their litters with the Kennel Club and wrongfully benefiting financially from the KC badge. www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/4154/23/5/3

Here is some feedback from this mornings protest and the result of the Council planning meeting re Penparc. E mailed from CARIAD
A good day today I think. An effective demo at the Penparc site this morning - around 12 of us were there. Plenty of excellent banners. Plenty of oportunity to wave these at the visiting councillors and the residents. BBC turned up a bit late but still took some film of us waving banners, chanting etc beside a 'Penparc Farm' sign. At the Planning Committee meeting, Linda was the only objector speaking and she did an absolutely brilliant job. A very articulaate and persuasive speech - emphasising the failure of the applicants to previously get a license or planning permission, the problem arising because of the lack of linkage between 'licensing' and 'planning', and the widespred concern about the authorities failure to effectively regulate large scale puppy farm operations. It clearly had an impact. When councillors were invited to speak four explicitly raised their concerns about aspects of the development including issues of evasion of regulation by Penparc. When the vote was cast, it was approved. needless to say, but there were three abstentions, and a lower number of those in support than at the Beili Bedw situation. There was something different about the atmosphere too, I feel - more of a recognition by councillors of the strength of concern by the public about puppy farms. Linda did an excellent interview with the BBC outside, which they implied would be shown on BBC Wales today this evening. There may be something too in the Carmarthen Journal - possibly tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who came out today to Penparc, and for everyone's support. David

They're doing a fabulous job - another abstainer - starting to prick consciences ;D That takes some doing, especially as the whole area is so deeply entrenched in puppy farming.
Well done CARIAD ;D
