The staff at CDH and Friends are thrilled to announce the launch of a new walking initiative, Wakey Wakey Walkers! Our resident pooches will be given a morning walk, so they are ready to meet potential forever families at 10.30 when the Home opens to the visiting public. The walks will start from 8 am. If you are interested in being a part of the morning dog walking team, and are prepared to commit to 2 hours or more per week, you will need to complete our on-line Registration Form HERE and attend an induction. Inductions are held on the last Sunday of every month, at 10 o'clock. We are hoping to start Wakey Wakey Walking in the second week of September. If we do need to limit numbers, priority will be given to those who are available to walk during weekdays. CDH Staff and Friends will be hosting introductory sign up sessions/seminars during the first week of September.

We are also looking for a few trusted vols who could help with bringing the dogs in and out of their kennels for the walkers. This is to minimise disruption to the kennel staff, as this is their busiest time of day! Induction and training will be given, ideally we are looking for about 6 people who can commit to approximately 4 hours a week to help with this. If you think you would be able to help with this, please let us know

Next 3 induction sessions..... Tomorrow (Tuesday) morning at 9.30 - it will take approx. half an hour, and for those who want to walk tomorrow morning, we'll have enough time for you to take out a dog after the induction. If you are able to come please let me know by email. I realise this one is short notice, but we had to get agreement from the manager today before we confirmed the times. Thursday at 12 noon. Again, anyone who wants to walk straight after the induction is welcome to do so! Saturday at 9.30am. We have a meet and greet in the Bay on Saturday, so walkers can, if they wish, take a dog for a lovely stroll along the river bank to meet with our fundraisers at 'base camp'. These are fabulous rehoming opportunities for our dogs, so do come if you can! We have 6 'newbies' who are able to come out their first walk tomorrow morning, so we will be glad to see as many of you as poss, even if it's only for half an hour. Thanks everyone!

I am still struggling with the navigation on this site so no idea whether I am posting this in the right place but here goes. I have been doing weekday 'wakey wakey' morning walks for a few weeks now, every weekday from 08.00h - 09.30h (not 07.30h as the site still suggests Susie). The staff and volunteers are wonderful and the dogs are even more wonderful so I am having to 'woman up' emotionally!! I take Bluey out early as he's a nervous boy who doesn't really want to leave his 'home' so he toilets almost immediately outside the gate then pulls me back. He loves playing ball in the garden. George is one of my favourites too. Great big softie and so sweet on the lead. He could fill a bath though!! As for Maddison - I just wish I had her bladder and bowel control as she seems totally uninterested in toileting at all but she loves the walks and is so good on the lead. Sasha was heaps better today. She only did her 'give me a piggyback' dance for a short time then settled down really happily for the walk and though we got loadsa Number 1s she kept me guessing about Number 2s until we were almost back 'home'....bless. Some of the dogs I first met were found Forever Homes very quickly and I just hope that every one I meet will find loving owners - because they're worth it. <3

Hiya Lynneat131 ;D You post wherever you like, we arent fussy Lovely write ups there on some of the dogs, and I totally understand your need to woman up, when I first started walking I would get a bit emotional but isnt it just the best feeling when the dogs you have spent time with are rehomed!! The Wakey Wakey walks are doing the dogs soooo much good!! The routine is just brilliant for them and they seem so much happier and relaxed in their kennels since the morning walks have been going! We couldnt do it without the walkers though so a massive thank you for your dedication!! Hope you are enjoying it as much as the dogs are!! xxx

What are the dog walking hours over the Christmas period? Has this been posted somewhere? I can't find anything. I assume there will be some days where it is closed and others when hours are reduced... I'm keen to make up my hours once my visitors have left!

POSTED IN TWO SECTIONS JUST FOR INFO
Just a quick warning!
I was wakey wakey walking this morning and cleared up quite a lot of glass from the entrance to the strip of grass that runs off the lane to CDH between the units on the industrial estate and the river (on the left if you're going towards the home). There were also some pieces in the grass/mud on the edge of the lane near the units end and these were quite hard to see so I may have missed some. I only noticed when Lexi dived in for a sniff but I often hold dogs onto the verge there of a car needs to get past.
It was quite bright today and not raining so easy enough to see but if anyone's down there when it's a bit gloomy I would stay on the other side to avoid cut paws!
Belated Happy New Year all
Sue
ps No Pablo today and rumour has it he's off to a forever home. Brilliant news.
