I absolutely hate to hear this. Even in USA where pit bulls are bred for actual fighting, it is often the breeding dog who does not get involved in the actual fight training that are the only ones who are deemed suitable for adoption because of how they are reared. Yes they are reared badly but not trained to fight. BSL is WRONG. Who knows what breeds may be next ... Northern breeds, Rottweilers, (I was lucky enough to be able to adopt Sweatpea and would be lost without her!!), Staffies - utterly loveable. All these breeds are strong but absolute members of the family. When can it be acknowledged that regardless of the breed, training is of the utmost importance. Dogs are dogs, like children they need to learn limitations and acceptable behaviour without being neglected or abused. There should be an alternative such as a rescue specifically aimed at these innocents. All dogs have their basic instincts but all dogs are willing to please. Anything I can do to make a difference then I will. Be free at rainbow bridge Anna, thankfully you experienced love and kindness at some point in your life. xxx

It's okay Baglady, I've found it! Should anyone wish to join the Anti BSL groups on Facebook, the names are Anti BSL Peaceful Protests around the Globe, of which Citizens in Wales against BSL is one of the global groups. There were 27 events on Saturday 19th July around the world of which CIW took part. Word IS getting around about BSL but a lot more people need educating on this ridiculous part of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 especially with regards "type" as people have never heard of it. The next date is 11th and 12th July 2015, should BSL not be repealed, hopefully it will be but I will not hold my breath! Also, there are petitions etc under "Files" on each of these groups that you can print out and get signed, then send to The House of Commons. Thank you and run free Anna till I get there as caretaker to look after you xx xx

BSL has given me a real eye opener today. Utterly devastated that a dog in the home will be pts soon due to being "type". Blood Boiling. Which dog? This legislation is so so wrong!

BSL is a horrible horrible thing, however changing the law isn't going to work. People form opinions regardless of what the law states. I just make sure that every time I am out and about with my Staffie that he is well behaved, friendly and happy. If my little dog can change a few peoples opinions of the breed, then that's wonderful.
I urge anyone that owns one of these breeds (Staffs, Rotties, GSDs) to be careful about how their dogs are presented to the outside world. Not everyone is a dog person and it's usually a lack of education that leads people to make misinformed judgements about these breeds. If you own one of these breeds, and you are a responsible owner who trains and loves their dog, then you're already doing an amazing job!
For every sideways glance my dog gets, I give bigger smiles back. Getting angry doesn't really change anything, but showing people happy dogs DOES!

You are exactly right on this one! We have petitions that we send to DEFRA on the Facebook groups from DDA Watch asking for BSL to be repealed and replaced with something that works, to have more owner responsibility, and to have harsher penalties for those who keep committing offences. xx
