Please whisper a gentle hello to Grommit This lovely lad was very nervous coming out for his photoshoot today. We opened up the back of his kennel and let him come to us in his own time, with the help of some pate! After a few minutes he felt comfortable enough to come out for his photos and what a photogenic lad he is! Poor lad had his tail tucked firmly under his belly and seemed scared of his new environment Fab volunteer Ricki soon made him feel at ease with some gentle hands and kind words. Ricki gave him a lovely grooming and the big lads tail was up and wagging We have no doubt that Grommit will settle in in no time. The staff and walkers always do an amazing job with the nervous dogs and we look forward to seeing this stunning lad come out of his shell. Grommit is available for rehoming from 13th September. If you'd like more info on him, please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. Mon/Thurs till 6pm.

I saw this lad in his kennel this morning, he just lay on his bed looking sad and wouldn't come forward at all! Poor boy! Maybe some introductions in the garden will help him settle and come out of his shell a bit??

When we brought Grommit out for his pictures, we were very worried about him. He was obviously very troubled, disinclined to engage with us, and although he was fairly compliant, we shared the staffs' concerns that he may have been neurologically damaged. Grommit didn't respond to voices or sounds - at all. He didn't seem to know we were there He was examined by the vets on Monday, and it was clear he found this experience extremely difficult and confusing. Despite the very best efforts of the staff last week, Grommit's behaviour and demeanour became increasing distressed and disconnected, and on vets' advice the decision was made to let him go. Broken bones we can fix, broken hearts take longer, but sometimes a dog has demons so deep that they are beyond our reach. So desperately sad we couldn't help you Grommit run free, rest easy big boy

I didn't get the chance to meet Grommit, but from the photo his eyes told a thousand tales. Heartbreaking but the kindest thing to do I'm sure. Run free lovely boy.
