Hi. I am thinking of volunteering with you as a dog walker. I do a lot of walking/hiking so distance is not really an issue for me. I was wondering if you have set walks that walkers have to stick to. I don't know Cardiff very well but I do know the Ely trail, barrage circular etc. It could be quite a little adventurous day ouy for a four legged energetic friend to enjoy. I am also very open and keen to learn any new walks that may be on your daily walking list.

Hi Andrew! Walkers don't have to stick to set walks, go where your dogs nose leads you 😀

Hi, I'd be really interested in volunteering as a walker but I've never had a dog and don't have any experience of walking dogs. Do you think the induction will be enough to teach me what I need to know? Or is there another way I could get some experience first? Thanks!

Hi Laura, the induction will be enough for you. If you aren't too confident, ask the staff for a smaller or older dog that will just enjoy a little mooch, you'll soon be walking the big boys

Hi, I have registered myself for Cardiff dogs home and I was wondering when the next induction session is? Also does everyone who walks the dogs have to be trained or can I bring a friend along to walk the dog if they haven't attended? If so should I register us both separately or one with both names. Thanks, Josh

Hi ewenjosh1996, I believe once you have registered online to be a walker you now need to visit Cardiff Dogs Home to sign up for a specific induction date. You can take a friend with you on walks once you’ve been inducted, but they wouldn’t be able to take a dog themselves (it’s rare to be able to take two together in any case). If you both want to register then you’ll need to do it separately under your own names. Hope this helps!

Hello.
I'm planning to come to the induction on Friday. I may be a tiny bit late as I'll only have 30 mins to get there from work in Newport. Will it be an issue?

martyn95The inductions at Cardiff Dogs Home are coordinated and run by the staff and not the volunteers so probably best to contact the directly and check for advice. Best wishes.
