Dear Friends
I hope you'll forgive me raising a not very pleasant issue on the website - but I really need your help.
On Sunday - Midsummer's Day - a traditional festival will be held in the Yulin Province of China where thousands of dogs will be tortured and then eaten.
I won't go into the gory details because I don't want to upset anybody more than necessary - but there are animal welfare organisations around the world desperately trying to get it stopped.
I appreciate that different cultures have differing views about eating animals but this particular 'festival' is barbaric because the vast majority of dogs will be family pets - like most of the dogs at CDH - which have been stolen from their homes. They're often sold by the thieves for less than a £1 each.
As I mentioned, there are animal welfare campaigners trying to get it stopped, once and for all, by peaceful means. They are planning, if they can gather more than one million signatures, to present a petition to the Chinese Government to get the festival banned.
Would you consider signing and asking your friends and family to do so? If may seem like an enormous task, but if we all add our voices to the protest, it will make a difference.
If you use the search engine of your computer to find one of the following sites, you'll find the means to sign the petition:
Humane Society International
Last Chance for Animals
Peta
Or, failing that, find Change.Org and search for the Yulin Dog Meat Festival thread.
Please please help if you feel you can. The only difference between our dogs, including all the precious ones at CDH, and those facing horror in China is geography.

Thank you so much to all of you who've taken the time to sign and share the petition - I really appreciate it.
Hopefully a few more will find this thread and sign before Sunday. Apparently there's a big article about the campaign in the International Business Times so, with any luck, some of the powers-that-be in China will already be taking notice.
Teaching everybody to suck eggs - apologies - but if you have chance to mention it to anyone else, away from the forum, and ask them to pass the information on too, that would be brilliant.
Thank you again

Apologies OscarsMum, I meant to respond to your post last night.
Personal contact is always impactful so you could email/phone the Chinese Embassy in London and register your protest. China is becoming increasingly aware of how it's being viewed from abroad, so that may well help.
Other than that, if you have a fiver or tenner to spare, the charities like 'Humane Society International'; 'Last Chance for Animals'; 'Raise UR Paw'; 'Peta' etc always appreciate help supporting their campaigns. They really are at the coalface with undercover investigators - and sometimes risk their own lives to get the information out to the wider world.
