Hi All my name is Sheila Today I did my first walk with one of the dogs from Cardiff Dogs Home. I went to the induction meeting yesterday held by The Friends of the Dogs Wales, which was full of information and advice about taking the dogs out for a much wanted and needed walk. I couldn’t stop to walk a dog on Sunday, but today with new slip lead in hand and a pocket full of poop bags I set of for the dog’s home. The staff and other volunteers at the home were all welcoming and helpful and soon showed me the ropes of how to choose and book out a dog to walk. Out came OPHELIA. A white greyhound with big blonde patches and silky grey ears. She was eager to go for her walk and within a few yards of going up the lane the poop bags got their first use. I decided to explore the Ely walk alongside the river. I have lived in Penarth for nearly 40 years and didn’t even know it existed! We met some lovely people on our walk, isn’t it strange that people always say “hello or good morning” when you’re walking a dog? Ophelia soon settled into her walk and loved to walk at my side so that I could put my hand down and scratch her head and ears. She never put a paw wrong in our 90 minute walk. Then the hard part came. I had to hand her back. Thank you Ophelia for your company today I haven’t stopped smiling all day, and THANK YOU to ALL The Friends of the Dogs Wales and staff at Cardiff Dogs Home, for doing such an amazing job. Yes, I'm hooked. I will be back very soon Sheila
