This beautiful squishy face belongs to the oh so gentle Sonja.
Sonja is a pretty big girl. Not just due to being a Mastiff but she is certainly carrying a few Christmas pounds at the moment too, she is also strong, but she is very good on the lead and doesn't pull too much. I'm sure a routine of daily walks with our team of purple pilgrims will soon get you into shape Sonja!
Treats are definitely of the list for this girl, but for her photoshoot we wanted to see if she knew her basic commands, and Sonja certainly didn't disappoint! A fabulous sit and paw when Babs came over with the good stuff!
Sonja was so extremely gentle when taking her treats and when we were in the vet room she showed us just how much of a massive softy she really was. Sonja wasn't into toys, but she did love a good belly rub!
Is that nice Sonja???
I think that Face says it all

Squishy face Alert!!!!!!! Look away now if you are adverse to cuteness because beautiful Sonja has it in bags full. For the past two glorious afternoons I've had the wonderful company of Sonja on my doggy walks. She is a big strong girl but over the short time we've walked together I've done the distraction technique of walking the opposite way when she does pull and when she walks by my side we turn back around and walk the way we first intended so she stops pulling and she is just golden at it. I've left comments with the staff that maybe a harness would benefit Sonja too. By the time we are on our way back to the home, Sonja has been walking by my side with slack on the lead. Sonja can be quite vocal around other dogs. I'm not sure if she's desperate to say hello or if there is another reason but for now I kept her at a safe distance from other dogs. She is just desperate for love. Everyone she sees, she wants to say hello to. A lovely gentleman who had put an application on one of the other woofers today came over and said hello to us and immediately Sonja was all about the belly rubs. After our walk I opened my car to take in treats to the home. As soon as the door was open, Sonja jumped in straight away and did not want to come out! Hopefully next time I walk her she can come on a road trip with me. It did take a few treats to coax her out! Sonja is a gorgeous squishy with so much love to give. I really hope she finds her own personal belly rubber soon.

Fellow walker Rory has taken a real shine to Sonja and always ensures that he walks this beatiful girl. My son goes along for the walk and also enjoys Sonja's company. She is a power house and can get stressed being around other dogs but she adores humans. Sonja is a soppy lovable dog and would love to share her life with you. I love looking over the river you know.

Although Sonja is a bit out of my league for walkies at the moment as I'm new to walking at the shelter , she shows so much compassion when I pass by her kennel and has gotten so used to my visits that she'll lean into the kennel door as if she wanted a cuddle. She's not loud inside the kennel but I haven't experienced her behaviour with other dogs so I therefore can't make a comment about that part , but from what she's shown me she has so much love to give and just needs a forever home who can give her love in return and be patient with her, like all dogs.
Wishing for you to get all the cuddles and kindness in the future sweet girl! -L

I have discovered over the past few weeks that Sonja really just loves to cuddle. I was over the moon to spend some time with her in the pen last week and in the garden today. I really love to get this girl out of the kennel but she's just not keen on other dogs so it becomes a bit harder for both of us! Even harder when she decides the perfect spot for a fuss is directly on your leg , she sure does love to be close to you. The only danger is when you find that 'spot' to scratch and her leg starts kicking like mad! Although toys were squeaked and thrown , this big miss was determined to get some tlc and some scritches instead. Surely this is the face of true doggie bliss? So after relaxing one day we thought we should get her moving about in the afternoon sun in the garden. We did enjoy a good run around playing chase! Sadly nothing to show from that as she was either chasing me or I was chasing her. I think we were both knackered by the end of it! It's good to get you out girl!

Shared some time with Sonja in the garden Sunday too. She was an absolute doll, such a soft cuddly girl. Sonja came and sat by me and then decided to roll on her back for tummy rubs. Sonja was lapping up all the attention with a lovely smile. It's lovely yo see the change in sonja from when she first arrived at cdh. She was heavily overweight and now has slimmed right down, and enjoyed a few laps in the garden with some encouragemen from Aunty Susie.

This week we have the most beautiful lady who's gone through quite the transformation since arriving in hotel d'CDH. Sonja arrived at CDH in December and was a little on the large side, I'm sorry Sonja but these people need to know how far you have come! This lady loves a good run around in the garden and we had such fun watching her motor around and then "stop, drop and roll" for a good belly rub. Sonja is all about the love, I'd go as far as saying she's a LOVE BUG. If you can rub her belly and give her all the back scratches she desires - she will be your best friend. Plain chicken is the only treats on the menu for Sonja, we wouldn't want to undo all her hard work of getting into shape now would we? Sonja is so focused, sit and paw is too easy for her now. I imagine that the lucky person who adopts her can have a blast teaching her new tricks. Sonja spent quite a lot of time upside down on the weekend, as you can see in the video! This girl loves nothing more than human attention and I challenge you to spend time with her and not want to shower her in affection... You wouldn't be able to. We were all wrapped around her paws! Here's the video of our time in the garden, with quite possibly the most fitting song we have ever used. Sonja, when you smile - the whole world stops and stares for a while, because you really are amazing - just the way you are x

I've walked Sonja twice now and she is a bit of a challenge on the lead when passing other dogs! She's a strong girl so brace yourself!!! We went out today and stayed on the main road to avoid other dogs and she trots along next to you with no bother unless a big truck goes past when she pulls towards them. Cars, bikes and small vans she lets go by with no reaction! A lovely friendly girl, looking for a very large sofa and some understanding peeps xx

Sonja came home yesterday for a bit of respite from kennels. She is an absolute angel. She climbed into the car without fuss, sat calmly in the back seat looking out of the window and stayed put while I unloaded.
She slept right through the night, quietly snuffling next to my bed. She is completely house trained , she doesn’t play with toys or balls, she just wants to be near you, and if you give her the occasional tummy rub she will be you most devoted friend for life. At the moment she on a diet, so no treats allowed, but once she is has her trim figure back she will sit, give paw and take tit-bits with the softest mouth.
Yes she is strong, but she is also very obedient, so when she wanted to chase a swan, I explained they were not available for lunch and got her to walk away without any trouble. Later in the day, Shadow was passing and stopped for a drink of water. Sonja got quite excited and did a bit of deep barking across the balcony railings, but she was easy to put back in the house. As I write this she is lying by my side, but if I couldn’t see her I wouldn’t know she was there. As soon as I post this, I am going to phone CDH and ask if I can keep her another night, she is just the most delightful dog and a wonderful companion.
