I had a quick chat with my local AM today about this when I was at another event - she is very supportive of the cause in that its so wrong what is happening here re the recent planning app in Camarthen - she does want me to email her though as well, which I will do. Nice one Penny. When you e mail please stress that 1 to 30 is far too high. 1 to 20 should be max and I still think that is too high as well. There is a template above if you need it. Bern

As an addition to writing to your AM's a postcard will be available shortly , produced by CARIAD, for sending to Mr John Griffiths the Minister responsible for the new dog regulations. As stated in earlier posts the proposals are quoting 1 attendant to 30 dogs and that most agree is too many. The cards are calling for 1 to 20 as a max. I will post when the cards are available and hope that you will take a card and post it off to WAG. Watch this space Bern - we need to see what events we've got on this month and make sure we've got plenty of cards with us. Suggest we get people to fill them in on the spot rather than take them away. If we don't have any suitable events, perhaps we can squidge one in - just go push this. How many cards can you get hold of? Nice one Penny - I do wonder how many of our legislators are actually aware of what's going on

How many cards can you get hold of? Filling in on the spot means that we have to supply postage stamps so not keen on that. I have just asked for 100 at the moment but can alter that.

I now have postcards printed by CARIAD and addressed to Mr John Griffiths at the Senedd. They are pushing the point that one attendant to thirty dogs is not acceptable and asking for this to be reduced to one to twenty as a max. The cards just need your name and address and a stamp. Please support this initiative if you care about puppy farm dogs. I will bring the cards to SWALK and anyone else let me know and will arrange to get them to you. I have a hundred for starters. Thanks Bern

I was at the Home about 12 30 so missed the start of the SWALK walk so was unable to hand out the CARIAD postcards to send to WAG. I left some in Susie's car for when you all returned ( Had to leave at 2 pm to watch England V France ) So I hope those I missed got them from Susie. Thank you to everyone who has taken a card, lets hope we can make a difference. As FCDH are part of the CARIAD group it is great that we are doing something to help.

At this stage I would encourage everyone to actually write to the Welsh Government Minister Mr John Griffiths as we must ensure each response is recorded, the online is too general. I have copied the latest info to come from CARIAD see below that makes it imperative that we all write in :--- WELSH GOVERNMENT DELAYS NEW DOG BREEDING LEGISLATION AGAIN! New deadline is 23rd May! This time the puppy farming community has united and put pressure on the Government. They have insisted they write to every breeder in Wales about the submission and invite them to respond. Their argument? It will affect their 'businesses'. So the new deadline for responses is 23rd May 2012. It means there will now be hundreds and hundreds of puppy farmers putting their case for more lenient legislation. So EVERYONE who lives in Wales and is concerned about the welfare of dogs must be urged to complete their own submission. In particular the human to dog ratio of 30:1 is ridiculously high and means they can continue to get away with neglect, not employing sufficient staff to look after the dogs. It's not on! Please ensure that you have completed your own individual response. It's the only chance these poor dogs have of even limited improvements to their hellish lives. Please share this across Wales. wales.gov.uk/consultations/environmentandcountryside/breedingdogs/?lang=en

My local Am Vaughan Gethin sent me a copy of his personal response to the Minister John Griffiths. He stated his concerns at the increased ratio of attendants to dogs and quoted 20 to 1 as max and asked the minister to explain why the increase from previous proposals. He also stressed for greater staff time for the care and welfare of dogs and puppies. It is the best response I have had so far.

Hi Susie, Nuggie,
I'm coming to this a bit late so apologies if its already been dealt with on the forum. I will send in an individual response to the Welsh Government and I'll encourage my friends to do the same and spread the word. However, I'm not familiar with the proposed legislation and its history or our 'line'. I know we'd all love to ban this practice all together but are there certain issues we should stress as particularly important? Is there a model response I could look at? Or should I go to the CARIAD website and base my response on the issues raised there?
Appreciate your advice
Denise

Appreciate your advice Denise Hi Denise, If you look back a bit on this thread you will see that I have put a template for a letter to your AM. There is a lot of info on the other thread '' CARIAD and puppy farms'' that should get you up to speed on this emotive subject. From this you can devise a letter to mr John Griffiths the Minister responsible for the new legislation. Also at the show on Sunday you can pick up a card from the CARIAD display and send that to the Welsh Gov it is all addressed. FoCDH will be submitting a response shortly when approved. Thanks for you interest -- get that letter in. Bern

Many thanks Bern. I won't be able to make the show on Sunday unfortunately as I'll be out of the country but I'll start by getting the letter in and encouraging everyone I know to do the same.
Keep up the great work.
Denise

Thanks for this Denise Bern is Friends' nominated representative for CARIAD, and is, by a million miles, our best informed member on current legislation, the draft proposals, and all matters regarding puppy farming and the surrounding issues. He has done an amazing amount of campaigning work, and has represented Friends and CARIAD pretty much since we started, has spoken at planning meetings, met with assembly members, and been an outstanding ambassador for puppy farmed dogs. We are so grateful to Bern, and Caz (who has gone well above and beyond the call of duty) for being our beacon, keeping us informed, and being driving force in the campaign against puppy farming. Don't blush Bern, you deserve sooooo much credit for the work you have done, and continue to do. Sx
