My name is Richard. Got no dog to introduce at the moment as we lost our lab last year.
We've decided we'd like to give a kennel dog a second chance at life this time rather than buying a puppy.

Hey Richard, welcome to our forum! Sorry to hear about your Lab Have you considered becoming a walker with us? It gives you a good chance to get to know some of the dogs and maybe consider a dog you wouldnt ordinarily think of adopting? There are such a wide variety of dogs at CDH you are sure to meet your perfect family member x

Thank you Becky. Would love to become a walker but I live in sunny Cornwall. We came across this site because a friend of mine posted it on Facebook. I'm up visiting family next week so would like to pop into the home then with the rest of my clan.

Ah, that would be a bit of a road trip to walk some dogs Let us know when you plan on popping in and we'll make sure the kettle is on x

Hi Richard, Like you, I lost a much loved Lab. I'm so sorry for your loss.
I visited the home with my daughter and got to meet the dogs. We were then able to take the one we really liked for a walk, to get to know him. The staff are excellent there. If you want to adopt, they fill in a form with you and things progress from there. There are a lot of lovely dogs there and this is my fifth rescue dog and I've never regretting adopting.
The difference in adopting is the staff want to be sure the dog and people match up well and will ask questions and spend time with you to ensure that happens. You can definitely be sure of a warm welcome there.

Thanks Becky and Gilland. We're hoping to visit on Friday as we are coming up for a long weekend with the family. It's strange not having a dog there when getting up for work at 4am. Miss the sound of his tail waging against the carpet It's the first thing I heard in the morning And then there was the welcome home when I'd be arriving home from work after a late shift. Funny how you miss all these little things when they've gone.

There's nothing quite like the thump of a Labrador's tail. Ben could clear a coffee table in an instant. I think you might need to register before you can walk a dog, but others here let you know if that's correct. www.friendsofthedogs.org.uk/dog-walking.html has details of it for you. Gill

You are able to walk a dog that you are interested in rehoming without signing up as a walker. The staff will ask to see some ID though and you will need to leave your car keys whilst out walking x
