I just loved this gentle, calm, old lad. I'm sure that he will make a really devoted companion and would be so appreciative of a home of his own. Though he was good with Bas and has lived with other dogs, he seemed to be more of a "people" dog and I think that he would be fine as the only dog in the home.

Hi. Is Alfie still looking for a home? And is he okay with cats? I have a 12 year old male cat and other dogs live nearby.

Hi Everyone I have just logged in to give my update on Alfie who came to live with us this week and I see that tiggersmum has asked if he is still available. So I am sorry to report to you that he has found his forever home with us and we intend to give him all the love and pampering we can in his final years. He is settling in well, all be it that he has to deal with our teenage collies tantrums and barking outbursts. He is taking it all in his stride. We have visit the local park for walks this week but today was the first time we took the risk to let him off for a bit a ball chasing which went really well. He has discovered the best place to sleep We have played games in the garden made friends had lots of cuddles and learned some new tricks from Dylan We are so happy he has come to live with us and when he smiles (yes he actually does) drops his ears and wags his tail your heart just melts.

Hi Collie Mad.
Thanks for the update. I am absolutely delighted he has found a perfect collie mad forever home.
I've had labradors before but am happy to take on a golden oldie. I was really thinking next year would be a better time for me but Alfie just tugged my heart strings.
I wasn't sure I would be the best option for him really as I thought he would be happier in a home with people who "speak collie", have some young people about to keep him occupied and with a young collie friend as well he couldn't ask for more.
What a fabulous result (sniff, sniff - happy tears). I wish you all the luck in the world and I am so pleased for him.
Maybe next year will be my time. Not too long to go.
No doubt Tigger will be happy to still be number one for the moment!!!
Happy days.
Tiggers Mum xx

I am so pleased to read this lovely update on Alfie, in his new home. I thought that he was a lovely old lad, and, as someone who also has a rather "hyper" collie, I am sure that his gentle, calm character will make him a welcome companion to both humans and canine alike.

Oh my days I'm absolutely thrilled to see these pics! The staff at Newport City Dogs Home are extremely grateful to both Four Paws and The Oldies, who had offered to place Alfie into a foster home, but everyone involved is absolutely delighted that he had an eleventh hour fabulous forever home offer! THIS is what it's all about Thank you so much for posting these pictures, it is a dream come true to see Alfie in a home, where he belongs, loved and treasured

Hi everyone,
It has been two years now since we made our home Alfies forever home so I thought you might like to have an update. He is now 14 and everyone still comments on how young he looks. In his head he is still 5 I think but his body is now slowing him down (like it does all of us). He does have a touch of arthritus which causes him to limp at the end of his walks and he does not have a lot of teeth (although we have managed to retain the ones he had left after his gum infection) but the smile is just as wide and the tail wags lots and lots. Our vet advised we use ichy dog oil on his food for his skin and coat and what a difference it has made. He now has beautiful skin and his coat is back to a lovely jet black. His cuddles at bedtime have resulted in us having to invest in a king sized bed as there is no room for my husband and Alfie is reluctant to move up for him
