Please welcome leggy lurcher lad Benny This darling boy was brought into the Home by the wardens, who found him straying. We don't know how long Benny has been wandering around alone, but when he was found he was scavenging through big bags, trying to find food. He is still a little underweight.. Not surprisingly, Benny is still very focussed on food. We asked him for a 'sit' in exchange for a morsel. In an instant Ma'am! And we rather got the impression that Benny would do the ironing, just for a little scrap of food.... he was soooooo focussed on the 'treat hand'! Snack over, Benny decided to stretch his legs! He had a mad 5 minute zoomies around the garden! Benny is a gentle boy, and not surprisingly, he has already wowwed the Purple Pilgrim walkers. No-one has come forward to claim him, so Benny is available for rehoming from 15th November. As Benny is in the stable block (he was finding it difficult to cope in the main kennel block) please ask for him by name if you'd like to meet him! If you would like to meet him please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm. Mon/Thurs till 6pm For more information about the rehoming process at Cardiff Dogs Home, please click on the link below: REHOMING PROCESS

We took the lovely Benny out on Sunday. He is very gentle, calm and beautifully behaved. He was very gentle with my young children and he enjoyed attention and fuss from them.
He didn't pull on his lead and gave us a great sit - when we brought out some sausages as a treat :-)
A persons large dog (off lead) ran up to him whilst out on our walk but Benny just gave him an interested sniff with no sign of any aggression or anxiety.
He really is a gentle, kind dog. Every sofa needs a Benny xxx

Walked this dear boy for the first time yesterday and what a sweetheart he is!
So very calm and gentle, no pulling at all and loves a good cuddle - he didn't mind the rain either bless him.
I agree with 'wingingit', every sofa needs a Benny xx

Brought Benny out for a walk today. Such a lovely gentle boy and a great walker! He got really excited when I brought out the treats but sat like a perfect gentleman to take them. Totally agree with everyone else here, every couch needs a Benny!

We walked Benny for the first time today. His was listed in the walkers book as Benji so that's what we called him throughout our hour long walk - he seemed to answer to it anyway! We were warned that he had started barking at other dogs but we passed about 5 dogs down the lane whilst setting off on our walk and there was no reaction whatsoever. However, when we were walking down Penarth Road we passed a lady walking a little fluffy bundle of a dog and Benny did bark a little. He walks really nicely on the lead, no pulling at all, although he was skipping and jumping around a bit when he came out from his kennel as it was his first walk of the day and he was excited (don't blame him!). But he settled down really quickly into a nice pace. We took him to Grangemoor Park where we passed a couple of dogs and still no reaction, he was really good. He did a lovely sit for his treats too and took them nice and gently. On our way back to CDH we did pass another fluffy little dog and he barked again so I think this is just his instinct being a lurcher and wanting to chase little furry animals. He was a lovely dog to take out for a walk and we would definitely take him again. Good luck Benny (aka Benji!) in finding your forever home soon.

We took Benny out again today for a nice little walk with a few runs to let Benny stretch his legs! He is well behaved on the lead when alone but gets excited and vocal when passing other dogs, We did manage to distract him with some treats if other dogs passed and towards the end of the walk he didn't bark at other dogs... when we stopped for a little break Benny loved attention and being fussed over - I could just imagine cwtched up on a sofa in a nice warm home.

The volunteers who manage this site aren't involved in rehoming the dogs. I've removed your number to protect your privacy. Hope that's ok. The home opens at 10.30am tomorrow.

Had a couple of really enjoyable walks with Benny this weekend. He is keen to investigate his surroundings & easy on the lead. He's a little vocal when spotting some dogs but talking to him & a short lead seems to calm his excitement. We did a bit of bird watching too (he was fascinated). Photo on fb (one day I will learn how to post on the forum!) Bx

Took Benny out yesterday afternoon for a nice long walk and he was a pleasure to walk... no pulling on the lead, friendly and always looking back for reassurance ( and a treat!). On passing other dogs he did get excited and bark but his tail was wagging and he was easily distracted by some treats. I'm sure once in his forever home he would be easily trained as he has so much to give.

I've been meaning to post about Benny for a while - and kept being distracted - so sorry Benny!
I had the pleasure of taking Benny out for a quick walk one late afternoon. He is a lovely, affectionate fellow who obviously has a real joy for life.
He was a little vocal with the first couple of dogs we passed - but not in an overtly aggressive way. It was more like he was trying to announce his presence.
I found that by smoothing his head and murmuring to him as a dog approached really quietened him down - and as we eventually headed back to CDH, he was quiescent with the three dogs we met and wagged his tail.
I don't think Benny has a serious problem with other dogs - I think he's just slightly anxious to begin with and needs a bit of reassurance and somebody else taking control of the situation.
With me, he was gentle and really responded to affection and attention.
I already have a lurcher who was anxious with other dogs to start with - now he's a little star and I think Benny will go the same way
Good Luck Benjamin - the pleasure was all mine!

Benny has a new gf He had a hot date with Newbie Ruby in the garden this week... And before Gordon left the building last week, he took Benny aside, and gave him some tips on 'How to find your forever family'. The boys had a lovely stroll along the Ely Trail together... Benny does get very 'excited' when he sees other dogs and perhaps this is why he has been overlooked, but really, he is just a vocal young dog, and he has lots of love to give!

Had a lovely walk with Beautiful Benny in the sunshine today. The second time I've walked him but he seems so much calmer now. He trotted along next to me on a short lead with no bother just reacting a little when smaller dogs are about! A treat and a few words takes his mind off the other dogs quite well! Such a lovely boy, can someone please take him home? 💙
