If you like your girls big and beautiful, with a good sense of humour and eyes that will melt your heart, Miranda could be the one for you! Miranda arrived recently as a stray, so we don't know much about her background. Like many large breeds, Miranda is a very sensitive soul, and she was a little anxious about her sudden change of circumstances. But the fab Pilgrims at Newport soon helped her feel at Home! ooooh, watcha got there Judit?Oooooh, watch out Jenn! I'm coming in for a cwtch!Miranda is a large and lively young girl, her default 'howdy' can be a little bit overwhelming, and we're helping her to learn new ways to greet people! Atta girl Miranda - four on the floor and a nice gentle 'touch'! Miranda loves treats, and despite all the distractions in the busy garden, she couldn't take her eyes of Aunty Jenn! Sooooo much focus and concentration! Good girl Miranda! Miranda is a bit of a goofy girl, she has a wicked sense of humour, and loves her off-lead play time, but she also knows that 'sit' means she will get a tasty treat! Making new friends is thirsty work eh Miranda? Stopping off for a quick drink at 'The Red Bucket', the watering hole of choice for our dogs, situated in the pleasant surroundings of Newport City Dogs Home [img style="max-width:100%;" src=" If you'd like more information about Miranda or any of the lovely dogs for rehoming , or would like to meet her please contact the staff at Cardiff Dogs Home, tel 029 2071 1243, or pop in for a visit - no appointment needed! Rehoming fees are from Β£120 - Β£200 depending on the age/breed of the dog, and include vaccinations, flea and worm treatment, and a microchip.

Considering how desperately shy and unsure this girl was when she arrived it's been a delight to see her relax and show us what she really is all about. In fact we had some lovely reviews about her over on our Facebook wall. So lovely that we had to share them! This was from some lovely brand new volunteers who took Miranda straight out for a walk after completing their induction. and also this one from a family of our regulars who recently adopted one of the Newport residents. As you can see from the photos here and earlier, Miranda has proved that she is indeed a well behaved gentle giant!

Hi Abbie, To be honest we're not sure. The home's resident cat Sweep usually makes a pretty swift exit when he see the dogs heading out for walkies! So we don't think she's had the cat test yet. π We do know however that Miranda has shown very good manners around children and other resident dogs so that's a good start. Why not pop down to the home on Wednesday or Saturday between 11am & 1pm when some of the volunteers who know Miranda can introduce you to our gorgeous girl! Hey, i am very interested in this girl......how is she with cats?

Absolutely lovely walk with this big beautiful girl today. She is excitable on first coming out but then who wouldnt be after being cooped up all night? Once you get out of the kennels though she is a pleasure. She is so full of LOVE π and is just looking for someone to share it with her. We didn't have our young girls with us today but that just meant all the more love and play for us Nicola Seaborne (as last time we barely had a look in as Miranda and the girls couldn't get enough of each other in the sand π). If given half the chance this girl will give you all the loyalty and LOVE you could possibly ask for (and then some more for good measure). Your forever sofa can't be too long now Miranda β€ππΆβ€

Magnificent Miranda has been on my wish list of woofers to walk since she swept me of my feet a few weeks ago. So I couldn't believe my luck when Polly's fave volunteer in the whole world asked yours truly if I would like to take Miranda for walkies ("yes please Jenn!"π)
At the start of our walk, Miranda wanted to play tug of war with her lead. But once she realised that her high jinks wasn't going to engage my attention, she soon became disinterested and relinquished her 'toy'. And then, in a twinkling of an eye, she proceeded to calmly stroll by my side! Considering that we'd been walking for only five minutes or so, I was mightily impressed by Miranda's abrupt change in behaviour. What's more, her mouth didn't go anywhere near her lead for the remainder of our amble (which was well over an hour), preferring instead to gently nudge or lightly touch my hand with her snout every now and then, bless her. Other 'steal my heart moments' arose (oh my gosh, there were many!) while we waited at the kerb before crossing the road - not only did Miranda stay put after I had asked her to 'wait', but she also looked up at me through her wonderfully expressive peepers for the signal to continue onwards!
Miranda had lost everything she had ever known, through no fault of her own when she arrived at NCDH.π’ But thankfully things are definitely looking up for her now. She's receiving as much love and care that's possible from the staff and volunteers, and happily her confidence has bloomed - her timid and insecure days have well and truly faded into the distant past. I'm ever so hopeful that a permanent loving home is on the horizon for this intelligent, charismatic, super affectionate and utterly adorable girl...oh that beautiful face!π

I am very interested in Miranda... I'd like to know if she would be able to stay outside during the day when myself or my partner would be at work...she would only be left alone for 2-3 hours but we have a secure garden with high fence and an outbuilding that has been adapted for a dog thanks x

Hi Stevie-Anne! Best thing would be if you are able to pop down to the home to meet Miranda and to chat with the staff/volunteers about our gorgeous girl! The home is open 11am-1pm and 2-4pm (3.30pm on a Saturday). If you wanted to pop down tomorrow that would be fab. Just a heads up that we are expecting to be very busy tomorrow morning so if you were able to pop down in the afternoon that would be great as we would potentially be able to give you and Miranda some time in the garden together and we'd be able to chat to you properly about this super girl π If you can bring some photos of your garden that would be extremely helpful. Hope to see you soon! I am very interested in Miranda... This funny girl had the pleasure of the company of 2 of our amazing vols today and spent nearly 2 hours out walking.
We've had builders the last week at kennels and Miss Miranda has been finding it all rather stressful. Despite being very unsettled by the noise, she was behaving impeccably when I saw her out walking in the field.
When she arrived back at kennels, we decided to give Miranda some time in the garden and she was certainly happy to spend time playing tug or ball. Eating sausages and rich tea biscuits or generally just chilling out in the shade with the volunteers.
Miranda really is such a lovely girl and we would love to see her in a forever home. She's been waiting so patiently for her new home to find her.
If you think that could be you, please make an appointment to come down and see this beautiful girl! π

When the big and friendly boy that is Oscar arrived at Newport City Dogs Home last week it didn't take long for us to figure out that here was a potential Beau for our lovely Miranda. Thanks to some of our fab Pilgrims at the weekend, a successful first blind date was negotiated and both Oscar and Miranda arrived back from walkies with a bit of a spring in their step. It was great to be able to arrange a 2nd meeting for them both on Monday. After a quick sniff for them both, they settled straight into walking happily side by side just like they were old friends. It was lovely to see Miranda be able to spend time with a doggy pal. She tries her hardest but this adorable girl finds kennel life tough and she can be a little excitable. To be fair, I really can't say I blame her! Anyway, a 3rd date with Oscar is booked and we've got everything crossed that we'll soon have these two romping around the garden together having fun like all dogs should! Watch this space!! π

Miranda heard a little rumour that there were some footie matches on in Coronation Park this afternoon so we wandered over and she was perfectly content to sit in the shade under a tree and watch the game. I do think at one point she thought she would've been a better goalie for one of the teams but it was getting close to dinner time so we gave it a miss for this weekend π But in all seriousness, for a girl who had been in kennels the last few days, after a 20 minute blast around the garden with a ball she was happy to mooch around the field, stopping for cuddles and to watch the footie whenever the mood took her. Thanks for a lovely afternoon Miranda!
