Meet Rosa... This lovely girl arrived at cdh after being found straying by a member of the public. It's clear to see from the wounds on her neck and shoulder that she's had a pretty traumatic time, and she was initially a very worried girl when she arrived. Now in the tender care of staff at cdh she is receiving vet care for her wounds and is starting to feel much better and more settled. Rosa is spending some time as office dog to give her some peace and quiet, and she's enjoying the company of staff and volunteers (and her ball ) Despite what she has been through she is the sweetest, most gentle girl. She loves to have strokes and tickles, and will take treats so gently If you stop stroking her, she will put her paw up as if to say 'more please, I like being fussed' Every time I went in the office she wagged her tail at me and put her paw in the air. Such a lovely lovely soul. I can't wait to see how she blossoms now. If you would like more information, or would like to meet Rosa, please phone the Dogs' Home: 029 2071 1243 or visit Cardiff Dogs' Home, Westpoint Industrial Estate, Penarth Road, open 7 days a week, 10.30 - 4pm.

We have tried using a step-in harness but she has suffered so much pain she is averse to everything, she just squeals and drops to the floor if she even sees a lead. So the staff have been taking exceptional care of her in the office while she heals. As soon as the gates are closed she comes out into the grounds to toilet and kick up her heels. Rosa is verrrrry affectionate, she seems to know that she is in safe hands with the staff, who have been amazing with her. She really is a darling girl

I spotted her the other day in the office and she seemed very comfortable and content in there, though her side still looks so sore. Poor sweetheart. I'll just keep spying on her in the office until she's ready for walkies

Oh, Miss Rosa! I'm so happy we were lucky enough to take her out this morning. Her skin is healing up really nicely and though it still looks a little raw, I don't think it's hurting her anymore, just irritating slightly. She sashayed right out of the kennels with the biggest smile on her face and came over to us straight away for sniffs and to say hello before we set off. I was worried she might still be quite anxious, but her stay at CDH so far has done her a world of good and she looks like a completely different dog to the scared little girl in the first set of photos. She has this gorgeous little way of walking, probably due to her shoulders being lower than her hips (or at least that's how it appears), that I took to calling her sassy lady walk. She walks wonderfully on the lead, barely any pulling, and is so responsive to commands. Her sense of smell, sight, and hearing are all top-notch! When we stopped for treats and cuddles at the benches in Grangemoor, Rosa had a lot of fun watching the all the birds and even the trucks over on the bridge. When we went under the train bridge in the park she did get a little spooked but that quickly turned to curiosity, with her little ears picking right up. She showed some interest in other dogs we passed but moved on quite happily when asked and showed absolutely zero aggression. This little lady is all about having a fuss and cwtches, though that doesn't stop her from multi-tasking. At the benches she seemed quite content half sitting on my leg while also stretching out on and having a nibble at the grass. Rosa took her treats so gently and sat and gave paw without us even needing to ask. She's a proper little staffie deep down and checked back frequently as we walked to make sure we were both still there, and had some good snorts as she snuffled down the lane. Looking back at her old photos it's amazing how much she's blossomed in so little time thanks to the wonderful TLC she's received at CDH. I would say fingers crossed she finds her forever family soon but some little birdies told me that there may be one lucky home already on the horizon! I'm going to miss this gorgeous girl so much but I really hope everything works out and she's off on her comfy sofa sooner rather than later! www.facebook.com/sian.k.alexander.9/videos/10102720616450235/Rosa being her gorgeous and happy self in the sun!
